MUNDELEIN, IL- No. 37 Mundelein scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st and that was all they would need en route to an 11-0 (5 inning) victory over Wheeling on Wednesday afternoon.

In the bottom of the first leadoff man Sam Osisek walked and after Nick Stricker also drew a walk, Luke Peterson stepped to the plate. Peterson drove a fastball to left field for a 3-run homer. That was all Mundelein starter Brendan Murphy would need. After allowing two singles in the first, sandwiched by a strikeout, Murphy induced a double play ball to end the threat. In the second after Christian Hubbard reached on an error, Murphy settled in striking out the next three hitters while running his fastball up to 88 mph.

In the bottom of the second the Mustangs sent ten men to the plate scoring six times, highlighted by a 2-run double by Reese Dolan. Zack Zagula drew a bases loaded walk in the 3rd to cap off the scoring for Mundelein. Murphy cruised thru his four innings of work striking out 7 to earn the victory.

Wheeling loaded the bases off reliever Cooper Michalski in the top of the 5th. With Jake Jordan in the box and Wheeling’s best hitter Brenden Spillane on deck, Michalski buckled down and got a double play ball to end the game.

Wheeling lead off man Nathan Cooney paced the Wildcats offense going 3-3 with three singles.

Mundelein improves to 7-1 on the year and returns to action tomorrow at home against Conant. Wheeling drops to 2-2 on the year and returns to play Saturday at Antioch.
