Outfielders Steal the Show at Loaded Top Prospect Event



The outfield talent stole the show at the loaded Top Prospect Showcase at Silver Cross Field in Joliet on June 14.  The group showed off their athleticism throughout the event, with six players throwing 88+ mph and 10 players running a sub-7 60.

The event was highlighted by Anthony Ray, St. Rita HS, Jake Ring, Grant HS, Michael Hermosillo, Ottawa HS, and Corey Krupske, Lincoln Way North HS.  All look to be some of the premier outfielders in the Class of 2013.

A look at the outfielders at the event:

Anthony Ray, OF, St. Rita, Class of 2013
Ray is a 6-foot, 160-pound athlete who looks to be one of the premier outfielders in the Class of 2013.  Ray impressed with his speed, running a 6.75 60 and a 3.8 home to first.  Defensively, Ray exhibited smooth, concise routes to the ball and showed a strong arm from the outfield (89 mph) that showed carry and life.  At the plate, Ray displayed an aggressive left-handed swing with plus bat speed.  Ray showed the ability to stay inside the baseball well as he sprayed line drives to all fields.

Jake Ring, OF, Grant HS, Class of 2013
Ring proved to be one of the top outfielders in the Class of 2013,  showing well in all facets of the game.  Standing at 6-foot, 175-pounds, Ring is one of the most athletic players in his class, running an event best 6.60 60.  Ring continued to show his athletic ability in the field, getting excellent reads off the bat and taking precise routes to the baseball.  He showcased an accurate arm (87 mph) from the outfield that showed solid carry and ride.  Offensively, Ring has an easy left-handed approach with an active lower half.  He has a quiet overall approach, and looks to be a top-level leadoff type hitter.

Michael Hermosillo, OF, Ottawa HS, Class of 2013
Hermosillo is a 5-foot-10, 190-pound outfielder who impressed with his high-level tools.  He is a premier quick-twitch athlete, one who registered one of the fastest 60 times of the event (6.72).  Defensively, Hermosillo took concise routes to the baseball and showcased a strong arm, being clocked at 90 mph.  Offensively, Hermosillo exhibited a smooth load and a strong lower half, creating solid bat speed.  Hermosillo showed plus gap-to-gap power, driving balls to the deep parts of the field.

Corey Krupske, OF, Lincoln Way North HS, Class of 2013
Kruspke is a 5-foot-10, 155-pound outfielder who impressed with athleticism and quick twitch actions.  Krupske showed well defensively, showcasing excellent footwork, taking concise routes to the baseball and getting his momentum behind his throws.  He was clocked at 87 mph from the outfield with throws that were right on the bag.  At the plate, the left-hander hits with a wide, balanced setup and takes an economical approach to the baseball, keeping his hands inside well and spraying balls to all fields.

Danny Raferty, Loyola HS, Class of 2013, impressed with his easy, left-handed swing.

Alex Mumm, Winnebago HS, Class of 2013, who was clocked at 91 mph with accurate throws that showed carry and life.

Darius Day, Simeon HS, Class of 2014, who ran a 6.89 and was clocked at 87 mph from the outfield.

Brian Richard, Oak Forest HS, Class of 2014, looks to be one of the premier left-handed hitters in his class.

Top Prospect Outfielders (Alphabetically)

Greg Anast, OF/SS, Stevenson HS, Class of 2014
Anast is a 6-foot-1, 160-pound multi positional player who has a level line drive swing.  Anast moved well in the outfield taking concise routes to the baseball, and was clocked at 74 mph.  Additionally, Anast ran a 7.6 60.

Kraemer Brandt, OF, Conant HS, Class of 2013
Brandt is a 5-foot-8, 175-pound outfielder who showcased an accurate arm that was clocked at 73 mph.  Offensively, Brandt exhibited solid bat speed and lower half rotation with a line drive swing.  Additionally, he ran a 7.22 60.

Alexander Broskovetz, OF, Lemont HS, Class of 2013
Broskovetz is a 5-foot-9, 175-pound outfielder who showed well at the plate with an easy left-handed swing.  Broskovetz barreled up the baseball from the left-side, exhibiting the ability to keep the bat flat through the zone as he laced line drives.  Defensively, Broskovetz was clocked at 78 mph from the outfield.  Additionally, Broskovetz ran a 7.5 60.

AJ Compton, OF, Prospect HS, Class of 2013
Compton is a 5-foot-10, 165-pound outfielder who showed solidly in all facets. Offensively, the righ-handed hitter showcased a short, compact swing with a level path to the ball.  Compton kept his hands inside the ball, taking an opposite field approach.  Defensively, Compton played through the ball and showcased an accurate arm that topped at 84 mph.  Additionally, he ran a 7.01 60.

Patrick Crowley, OF, Vernon Hills HS, Class of 2014
Crowley is an athletic 6-foot, 160-pound outfielder who ran a 6.88 60.  He displayed a true feel for his position, taking concise routes to the baseball and getting behind his throws.  Crowley exhibited some carry as his throws that was clocked at 81 mph.  At the plate, Crowley exhibited quick hands through the zone, creating solid whip as he barreled up balls to all fields. 

Daniel Cutkomp, OF, Alleman Catholic, Class of 2013
Cutkomp is a 5-foot-10, 180-pound outfielder who impressed with his athleticism, running a 6.98 60.  Defensively, Cutkomp exhibited quick feet in the outfield, getting behind the baseball and on top of his throws.  Cutkomp showed a strong arm from the outfield (88 mph) with good carry on his throws that were right at the bag.  At the plate, Cutkomp displayed a balanced setup with a smooth load and short stride.  His strong lower half and compact swing allowed him to spray line drives to the gaps.

Cully Day, OF, Mahomet-Seymour, Class of 2014
Day is a 6-foot, 170-pound outfielder who impressed with his loose left-handed swing at the plate. Day has a relaxed approach, as he maintains balance and rhythm throughout. He has an easy line drive swing as he showed the ability to hit to all fields. In the outfield, Day exhibited a solid feel defensively playing through the baseball and getting on top of his throws (77 mph). 

Darius Day, OF, Simeon, Class of 2014
Day continues to show why he is the top prospect in the Class of 2014.  The 5-foot-11, 170-pound outfielder ran a 6.89 60 while showing top-level defensive skills. Day moves fluidly through the ball and topped at 87 mph from the outfield. Offensively, Day has a smooth left handed stroke with power potential to all fields.

James DeGeorge, OF, Lake Zurich HS, Class of 2013
DeGeorge is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound outfielder who displayed a line drive swing with fluid rhythm at the plate.  DeGeorge hits from a balanced set up with a solid lower half.  Defensively, he exhibited good routes to the ball and topped at 78 mph from the outfield.

Peter Doughty, OF, York, Class of 2013
Doughty is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound outfielder who impressed with his smooth left-handed swing.  Offensively, Doughty has a balanced setup, and takes an economical approach to the baseball.  He demonstrated good rhythm and fluidity, using his lower half well and spraying line drives to all fields.  Defensively, Doughty moved well in the outfield and displayed an accurate arm (80 mph).  Additionally, Doughty ran a 7.15 60.

Jacob Evans, OF, Normal West HS, Class of 2013
Evans is a 6-foot-1, 165-pound outfielder who featured a smooth, line drive swing from the left side of the plate.  He uses his athletic lower half to turn on the baseball and stays well-balanced throughout contact.  Defensively, Evans played through the baseball well and was clocked at 77 mph from the outfield.  Additionally, Evans ran a 7.19 60.

Matt Fallon, OF, Loyola, Class of 2013
Fallon is an athletic 6-foot-1, 165-pound outfielder who impressed by running a 6.97 60.  Defensively, Fallon moved well, getting good reads off the bat and taking concise routes to the baseball.  He showcased an accurate arm (79 mph).  Offensively, Fallon features a short, compact swing.  He showed some rhythm at the plate, taking an economical approach to the baseball as he squared up the baseball.

Jermemiah Figueroa, OF, Clemente, Class of 2013
Figueroa is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound outfielder opened eyes with his arm strength from the outfield, as he was clocked at 91 mph. The ball explodes out of his hand, and he delivered his throws on line. Figueroa showed solid footwork in the outfield, getting through the ball athletically and with force.  At the plate, Figueroa has quick hands and has a balanced, level approach.

Jake Hart, OF/LHP, Shepard HS, Class of 2014
Hart is a 5-foot-7, 175-pound multi-positional player who showcased a level, line drive swing while maintaining solid balance throughout contact. Hart has a slightly open stance and takes a short stride to the baseball.  On the mound, Hart exhibited a fastball that topped at 73 mph and a curveball that sat at 64-66 mph.  Additionally, he threw a changeup for strikes that sat at 62-64 mph.

Ty Henderson, RHP/OF, Webber Township, Class of 2013
Henderson is a projectable 6-foot-6, 168-pound right-handed pitcher who has the frame and arm to throw significantly harder in the future.  Henderson, who attends a small school in Southern Illinois, works from an over-the-top arm angle. His fastball topped at 88 mph, sitting in the 85-86 range. Henderson also threw a curveball that sat at 64 mph and a changeup that sat at 69-73 mph.  Defensively, Henderson moved well in the outfield, using his frame to get on top of his throws that showed carry to the plate (86 mph).  Offensively, Henderson is a left-handed hitter who ran a 7.27 60.

Jack Holden, OF, Schaumberg HS, Class of 2014
Holden is an athletically built 6-foot-2, 180-pound outfielder with a projectable frame.  Holden took concise routes in the outfield and fielded the ball in rhythm as he delivered accurate throws (79 mph).  Offensively, Holden has a loose left-handed swing, taking an economical approach to the baseball and maintaining balance throughout.  Additionally, Holden showed off his athleticism by running a 7.12 60.

Danny Hyde, OF, Notre Dame College Prep, Class of2013
Hyde is an athletically built 6-foot-4, 175-pound outfielder who impressed with his all-around abilities. Hyde hits from a slightly open stance and showed swing looseness and barrel whip through the zone. He stays inside the ball well, barreling up balls to all fields.  Defensively Everything Hyde does, he does athletically. Hyde moved well and showcased an accurate arm (82 mph) from the outfield.  Additionally, he ran a 7.22 60.

Brian Jenner, OF/MIF, Providence Catholic, Class of 2013
Jenner is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound multi-positional player with a quiet, compact left-handed swing.  Jenner showed some juice in his bat, squaring up the baseball to all fields.  Defensively, Jenner showcased an accurate arm that was clocked at 85 mph and from the outfield he topped at 79 mph.  Additionally, Jenner ran a 7.19 60.

Joshua Kuntz, OF, Lyons Township HS, Class of 2014
Kuntz is an athletic 5-foot-10, 165-pound outfielder who impressed with his outfield abilities. He is quick to the ball, creating rhythm and gets downhill well. He showcased an accurate arm with some carry (84 mph).  Offensively, Kuntz showed quick hands and maintains balance throughout contact, barreling up the ball with consistency.  Additionally, Kuntz ran a 7.21 60.

Fred Manke, RHP/OF, Lodi (WI), Class of 2014
Manke is a 6-foot, 180-pound two-way player who impressed on the mound with his easy delivery. Manke’s arm works with little effort, as he showed command of an 83-84 mph fastball, a 66-68 mph curveball with solid bite and depth, and a 73-78 mph changeup, which has a chance to be a legit out pitch showing solid two plane action.  Defensively, Manke moved well in the outfield and got momentum behind his accurate throws (85 mph).  Additionally, Manke ran a 7.19 60.

Bradley Margolin, C/RHP, Glenbrook North HS, Class of 2013
Margolin is a 5-9, 175-pound multi-positional player who showcased his versatility at the event with quick feet and a strong arm.  Margolin ran one of the fastest 60 times of the event, running a 6.78 60. Margolin is an advanced receiver behind the dish, exhibiting the ability to keep the baseball in front of him with consistency.  He had a best pop time of 2.05 and was clocked at 78 mph from the crouch.  From the outfield, Margolin displayed a strong, accurate arm (86 mph).  On the bump, Margolin showcased an 83-85 mph fastball that showed arm side run.  His best pitch was his 78 mph slider that flashed tight spin and a sharp, late break.  He also threw a changeup in the 69-71 mph range with sink. 

Kristian Meyer, OF, Fenwick, Class of 2014
Meyer is a 5-foot-10, 150-pound outfielder who exhibited an accurate arm that was clocked at 73 mph.  Offensively, Meyer hits with an open stance with an active lower-half.  Additionally, Meyer ran a 7.37 60.

Alex Mumm, OF, Winnebago, Class of 2013
Mumm is a 6-foot, 165-pound athletic outfielder who impressed with his defensive actions.  Mumm showcased impressive arm strength from the outfield, topping out at 91 mph. Additionally, he moves athletically through the baseball and was accurate with all his throws..  At the plate, Mumm has a wide stance and maintained excellent balance through contact.  He has a very quiet approach at the plate, displaying a quick bat through the zone that produced line drives.  Additionally, Mumm ran a 7.21 60.

Josh Paparone, OF, York, Class of 2013
Paparone is an athletic 6-foot-2, 175-pound athletic outfielder who showed athleticism in all facets of the game, running one of the lowest 60 times of the event, 6.76.  Paparone continued to impress with his solid defensive skills. He moves fluidly and is quick to the ball. His throws were on target (79 mph).  Offensively, Paparone exhibited a line drive swing with a short bat path.  He stayed inside the ball and had solid balance through contact. Overall, Paparone is one of the class’s more impressive quick-twitch athletes who should continue to see his stock climb in the coming year.

Frankie Perrone, OF, Maine South HS, Class of 2013
Perrone is an athletic 5-foot-9, 165-pound outfielder who showed well in all aspects of the game. Perrone exhibited advanced defensive skills, working through the ball with swift feet.  Perrone showed a plus arm with carry that was clocked at 86 mph. Offensively, Perrone hits from a balanced setup with a smooth load.  He exhibited quick hands, barrel whip through the zone and pull side power potential from the right side.  Additionally, Perrone showed his athleticism by running a 6.97 60.

Mike Pilas, OF, Mount Carmel, Class of 2013
Pilas is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound outfielder who played well through the ball defensively, taking precise routes to the baseball and showed off an accurate arm from the outfield (82 mph).  Offensively, Pilas has a balanced setup and exhibited solid extension and looseness at the plate.  Additionally, Pilas ran a 7.15 60.

Nikko Popp, MIF/OF, St. Laurence, Class of 2013
Popp is a 5-foot-8, 170-pound multi-positional player who exhibited arm strength from his defensive positions. From the outfield Popp was clocked at 81 mph and 76 mph from the infield.  Defensively, Popp showed quick feet and a reliable glove.  Additionally, Popp ran a 7.42 60.

Danny Rafferty, OF, Loyola, Class of 2013
Rafferty if a 5-foot-11, 185-pound outfielder who impressed with an easy left-handed swing.  Rafferty showcased a quiet plate approach, utilizing his aggressive lower half and athletic hands to barrel the baseball to all fields. He maintains excellent rhythm and balance throughout his swing.  Defensively, Rafferty moves with fluidity, taking precise routes to the baseball and playing through the ball well.  He showed an accurate arm, getting on top of his throws with life and carry (88 mph).  Additionally Rafferty ran a 7.34 60.

Brian Richard, OF, Oak Forest HS, Class of 2014
Richard is a 6-foot-1, 170-pound left-handed hitting outfielder who impressed with his easy, compact swing.  Richard has an advanced, relaxed plate approach, one that showed swing looseness and barrel control. Richard starts with a balanced setup and takes an economical approach to the baseball.  He showed whip through the zone as he sprayed line drives to all fields.  Defensively, Richard possesses an accurate arm with solid carry (78 mph).  Additionally, Richard ran a 7.45 60.

Will Schneider, OF/SS, Riverton HS, Class of 2013
Schneider is a 6-foot, 165-pound multi-positional athlete who displayed soft hands defensively and took a concise approach to the baseball in both the infield and outfield.  He showed an accurate arm both the infield and outfield, being clocked at 71 mph from across the diamond, and 84 mph from the outfield which exhibited good carry.  Offensively, Schneider stayed inside the ball well and showed good balance through the zone.  He demonstrated whip through the zone and sprayed line drives to all fields.  Additionally, Schneider ran a 7.4 60.

Alec Semersky, OF, Libertyville HS, Class of 2013
Semersky is an athletic 6-foot-3, 190-pound outfielder who impressed with his overall athleticism at the event.  Semersky proves to be one of the better athletes of the Class of 2013, running a 6.95 60 but was seen earlier in the week running a 6.65.  Offensively, Semersky impressed a with a strong lower half, exhibiting a level, line drive swing.  Defensively, Semersky took athletic routes to the ball and showed an accurate arm (74 mph). 

Ryan Trokey, OF, Sandburg, Class of 2013
Trokey is a 5-foot-11, 160-pound outfielder who showed life on his throws from the outfield topping at 84 mph.  Offensively, Trokey had a good approach at the plate and exhibited some whip through the zone.  Trokey has a smooth swing and showed some power potential as he put balls to all alleys of the field.  Additionally, Trokey ran a 7.54 60.

Nik Zak, OF/RHP, Elk Grove, Class of 2013
Zak is a 5-foot-11, 160-pound two-way talent who impressed defensively with his arm strength, throwing 90 mph from the outfield with throws that were right on the money.  The ball seemed to jump out of his hand with ease, showing solid carry and life.  Zak took good routes to the baseball and used his momentum well to play through the ball.  Additionally, Zak ran a 7.40 60.  On the mound, Zak’s fastball touched 83 mph and sat in the 79-81 mph range.  His secondary pitches included a 62-64 mph curveball and a 72-73 mph changeup.
