PBR Prospect Identification Showcase results



The Prospect Identification Showcase at Elite Sports Performance in Oswego unveiled a lot of new talent. The underclassmen at the event especially shined, with a handful of high-level, high-ceiling prospects, led by Joliet Catholic Academy freshman Nick Dalesandro, a RHP/C who you will be reading about for years to come.

A look at the event’s prospects:

Top Class of 2012 & 2013 Prospects

1. Ronell Coleman, MIF, Simeon HS, Class of 2013
Coleman showcased as the top defensive infielder at the event. The slick-fielding 5-foot-6, 140-pound player showed advanced actions and hands while fielding the ball out in front. Coleman positioned himself well, allowing for him to move through the ball and make accurate throws (79 mph). At the plate, the switch-hitting Coleman showcased a balanced, short swing from both sides of the plate. Coleman sprayed line drives to all fields consistently. He also showcased the best speed of the day, running a 6.88 60.

2. Nick Lopez, MIF, Naperville Central HS, Class of 2013
The athletic 5-foot-9, 150-pound middle infielder is an impressive athlete who showed well in all facets of the game. Defensively, he displayed advanced actions and hands in the field. Lopez moves with fluidity while fielding the ball with soft hands out front. At the plate, the left-handed hitter displayed excellent balance and rhythm throughout his swing. Lopez displayed a short, quick stroke through the zone that consistently hit line drives. Lopez also showed some foot speed, running a 7.09 60.

3. Tanner Reichardt, LHP/OF, Aurora Central Catholic HS, Class of 2013
The lean 6-foot-3, 170-pound prospect is a two-way talent who performed well in all facets of the game. On the mound, Reichardt topped at 82 mph with run. His arm worked clean and easy while operating from a high-¾ arm slot. His curveball showed sharp, late break and was consistently thrown for a strike. Defensively, he showcased a solid, accurate arm from the OF (80 mph) while playing through the baseball and working downhill on throws. Offensively, the left-hand hitter showed some bat speed and consistently found the barrel. Reichardt displayed balance throughout his swing and had a good approach.

4. Robert Fletcher, MIF, Simeon HS, Class of 2013
Fletcher ran one of the best 60 times of the day with a 6.97. In the field, Fletcher flashed solid hands and footwork while moving through the ball. Fletcher’s hands and feet worked well together while fielding the ball out front. Offensively, Fletcher showed some bat speed and a short path to the ball while staying balanced throughout his swing.

5. Matthew Miller, SS/OF, Oswego HS, Class of 2012
Miller is a solidly built 5-foot-11, 195-pound player who showed well in all areas. Defensively, Miller threw 83 mph from the OF while playing aggressively through the ball. Miller moved well, which was also shown during his 7.21 60 time. At the plate, he showcased some bat speed and barrel whip. He displayed a strong lower half and some power potential.

6. Cody Bennett, RHP, Winnebago HS, Class of 2012
On the mound, the lean 6-foot-5, 180-pound right-hander operated from a high-¾ arm slot with a fastball that sat at 79-80 mph range with some arm-side movement. Bennett threw a curveball that displayed 11/5 shape and was consistently thrown for a strike. He showed a feel for his changeup, which came in at 69-72 mph with some fade.

7. Chris Hill, C, Yorkville HS, Class of 2013
Hill is an athletic catcher who showed well in all facets of the game. Defensively, Hill threw a top pop time of a 2.07 and was on the bag with all throws. At the plate, he showcased an explosive lower half and excellent balance throughout his swing. He consistently hit line drives while showing some bat speed through the zone. Hill also impressed by running a 6.97 60.

8. Caleb Kissel, SS, Plainfield North HS, Class of 2012
The 5-foot-10, 160-pound infielder displayed an aggressive swing at the plate. Kissel showcased bat speed and whip through the zone. In the field, Kissel showed an accurate arm while playing through the ball.

9. Joe Pursel, LHP, Plainfield North HS, Class of 2012
The 6-foot-3, 180-pound left-hander showcased a feel for three pitches while operating from a ¾ arm slot. Pursel displayed a long, clean arm action with a fastball that sat in the mid 70s and displayed sink down in the zone. His curveball showed an 11/5 shape and tight spin. He also commanded a changeup that exhibited some sink and was located down in the zone.

10. Anthony Bragg, 1B/3B, Geneva HS, Class of 2013
The big 6-foot-3, 220-pound player displayed a level, line-drive conducive swing at the plate. Bragg consistently squared up the ball while using his strong lower half. In the field, he displayed an accurate arm across the field (79 mph).


Other Class of 2012 & 2013 Prospects

Joey Anderson, INF, Plainfield East, Class of 2013
The 5-foot-8, 145-pound infielder showcased well offensively. At the plate, Anderson exhibited a well-balanced swing in which he sprayed line drives to all fields. Anderson’s bat whipped through the zone and consistently found the barrel.

Josh Cooper, OF/INF/RHP, Yorkville HS, Class of 2012
The 6-foot-1, 155-pound player showcased a solid, accurate arm from the OF. He took good routes and played through the baseball. At the plate, his swing path was short to the ball and stayed inside it while hitting line drives.

Chris Hawks, RHP/OF, West Aurora HS, Class of 2013
On the mound, the 5-foot-6, 135-pound right-hander came from a ¾ arm slot with a fastball that sat at 77 mph. Hawks’ arm works quickly, and he consistently located his fastball down in the strike zone. His curveball flashed tight 11/5 break and changeup had downward movement. Offensively, he showed a level swing that found the barrel.

Nick Pullano, RHP/1B, Carmel HS, Class of 2013
On the mound, the 6-foot, 165-pound player displayed arm side run on his fastball. He was consistently around the strike zone with all pitches.

Edgar Ross, SS/RHP, Marian Central Catholic HS, Class of 2013
The 5-foot-9, 160-pound player displayed a level swing which produced consistent hard contact. He used his lower half effectively and found the barrel consistently. In the field, he showed solid hands.

Zachary Russo, OF/INF, Plainfield HS, Class of 2013
Russo is a 5-7, 140-pound athlete who ran a 7.12 60. In the field, Russo took concise routes and played through the ball. He also displayed an accurate arm (78 mph).

Daniel Solis, OF, Prairie Ridge HS, Class of 2013
Solis is a lean 5-foot-11, 160-pound player. In the field, he moved well laterally and showcased an accurate arm. Offensively, Solis started in a slightly open stance and showcased a level swing. He additionally displayed solid foot speed running a 7.26 60.

Rick Tormey, INF/OF, Oswego HS, Class of 2013
Tormey is a 6-foot, 160-pound athletic infielder who ran a 7.08 60. In the field, he moved well laterally and showcased an accurate arm across the field. At the plate, Tormey started in an open stance and displayed a level swing that found the barrel.

Kyle Van Vuser, MIF, Plainfield North HS, Class of 2013
The 5-foot-9, 155-pound player showed some bat speed at the plate. Van Vuser started in a slightly open stance and displayed a balanced swing. In the field, he showed an accurate arm and solid hands.

Blake Werges, INF/OF, Yorkville HS, Class of 2012
At the plate, the 5-foot-11, 152-pound player showed a level swing that found the barrel. In the field, he flashed solid hands.

Frank Yattoni, MIF, Oswego HS, Class of 2013
The 5-foot-8, 155-pound left-handed hitting infielder displayed a level swing that found the barrel and hit line drives at times. In the field, he showed an accurate arm (75 mph).

Class of 2014, 2015, and 2016 Prospects

1. Nick Dalesandro, C/RHP, Joliet Catholic HS, Class of 2015
Dalesandro is an elite talent, certainly the best we’ve seen so far in the Class of 2015. He has immense ability and possesses a tremendous amount of upside. The 6-foot, 150-pound athlete was equally impressive as a position player and as a pitcher. Defensively, Dalesandro threw consistent 1.94-2.02 pop times, all on the bag. He showcased quick feet and release with impressive arm strength from the crouch (81 mph). At the plate, he displayed a level, well-balanced swing that consistently produced line drives. Dalesandro starts in a semi-open stance, and showcased explosive bat speed and a dynamic lower half. On the mound, however, he may have been even more impressive. He operated from a high-¾ arm slot with a fastball that sat at 83-84 mph and topped at 85 mph. He flashed late, short break on his slider. His changeup, advanced for his age, showed sink and was thrown for a strike. He additionally showed his athleticism by running a 7.19 60.

2. Joe Uvelli, RHP/3B, Elmwood HS, Class of 2015
Uvelli is an explosive two-way player who has tremendous amount of upside. On the mound, the physically advanced 6-foot-3, 185-pound right-hander operated from a high-¾ arm slot with a fastball that sat at 81-83 mph range. He showed good rhythm throughout his delivery and his arm worked easy. He showed a feel for his changeup, which displayed some downward action. Offensively, he displayed a balanced swing that had some bat speed and power. Uvelli looks to be a high-level prospect on the mound.

3. Drake Fellows, RHP/3B, Drauden Point MS, Class of 2016
Fellows showcased as one of the premier Class of 2016 players in the state. On the mound, the physically advanced 5-foot-11 Fellows operated from a high-¾ arm slot with a clean arm action. Fellows located three pitches for strikes and displayed rhythm and balance throughout his mechanics. His fastball displayed run and sat at 80-81 mph. His slider showcased late, tight break, and he showcased a feel for his changeup which displayed sink. At the plate, the left-handed hitter continued to impress, showcasing a balanced swing that whipped through the zone. In the field, he played through the ball and exhibited solid hands.

4. Alex Troop, 1B/LHP, Marmion HS, Class of 2014
Troop is a promising two-way talent who possesses all the skills to be an elite player in his class. Offensively, the left-handed hitting first baseman showcased an explosive lower half and impressive bat speed through the zone. Troop displayed some pull-side power and barrel whip through the zone. Defensively, around the bag he showed advanced footwork and soft hands. On the mound, the lean 6-foot-2, 165-pound left-hander sat at 78-79 mph while operating from a high-¾ slot. He showed a feel for his changeup and curveball flashed tight break. His arm works with fluidity and ease, which leads us to believe he will see his velocity climb in the coming years.

5. Tyler Halas, SS/RHP, St. Rita HS, Class of 2015
Halas is a 5-foot-10, 145-pound two-way player who showed an advanced approach for the game while performing well in all facets. Offensively, he has an advanced plate approach, and showcased as one of the event’s best all-around hitters. Halas showed a balanced swing with a short path to the ball. He displayed rhythm in his swing and a solid lower half while hitting consistent line drives. In the field, he showcased solid hands and an accurate arm across the field. On the mound, Halas’ fastball was in the 79-80 mph range. He operated from a high-¾ arm slot with a curveball that showed a 10/4 break. He showed a feel for his changeup that was located down in the zone.

6. Kyle Polaski, RHP/3B, Joliet Catholic HS, Class of 2014
Polaski is a two-way talent who excelled at both positions. On the mound, Polaski showcased a feel for three pitches and threw all for strikes. He topped at 79 mph with run while operating from a high-¾ arm slot. He displayed a feel for his change that displayed fade. Offensively, he exhibited a short path and stayed level through the ball. He showed balance in his setup and throughout his swing.  Defensively, he displayed an accurate arm and threw 77 mph across the field.

7. Blake Sempertrean, LHP, Plainfield South HS, Class of 2014
Sempertrean is a 5-foot-11, 190-pound left-hander who showed a feel for three pitches. He came from a high-¾ arm slot with a fastball that sat in the upper 70s. His curveball showed tight spin and good depth with 11/5 break. He had the same arm speed on his changeup, which showcased run while coming in at 71-72 mph. With continued development, Sempertrean should see a spike in velocity.

8. Joe Flores, RHP/OF, Aurora West HS, Class of 2014
Flores is a 5-foot-11, 160-pound two-way player. On the mound, Flores sat at 78-79 mph while operating from a ¾ slot. His curveball showed a 12/6 shape and flashed tight break. Offensively, he showed bat speed and squared up the ball. In the field, Flores moved well and took good routes to the ball. He threw 77 mph and showed an accurate arm.

9. Mario Tursi, SS, Glenbrook South HS, Class of 2014
Tursi is a lean and projectable 6-foot-1, 155-pound infielder. In the field, he showcased as one of the top defensive players at the event. Tursi displayed good actions and moved through the baseball with soft hands out front. At the plate, he showcased a strong lower half and good bat speed. Tursi consistently found the barrel with a level swing.

10. Bryan Van Vuser, MIF/RHP, Class of 2015
The 5-foot-7, 135-pound player showcased a well-balanced swing at the plate. Van Vuser displayed an advanced approach, spraying line drives to all fields. He exhibited a short, compact swing with solid bat speed. On the mound, Van Vuser showed a fastball with arm side run that sat at 76-77 mph. He showcased a feel for his changeup which displayed sink and was consistently thrown for a strike.

Other Class of 2014, 2015, and 2016 Prospects

Jeremy Dalton, C, Plainfield East, Class of 2014
The 5-foot-8, 140-pound catcher threw a top pop time of a 2.33. At the plate, he displayed a level swing that showed good balance throughout.

Christian Hernandez, OF/INF, Oswego HS, Class of 2015
Hernandez is a 5-foot-3, 130-pound multi-positional player who ran a 7.37 60. Hernandez was clocked at 65 mph from his position.

Christopher Hernandez, C/SS, Oswego HS, Class of 2015
The 5-foot-2, 115-pound Hernandez showed quick hands at the plate and made consistent line drive contact. Defensively, he registered a top pop time of 2.41 and was clocked at 70 mph from shortstop.

Tyler Jaeger, RHP/3B, Nequa Valley HS, Class of 2014
Jaeger is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect who displayed a balanced swing which found the barrel. On the mound, he sat at 72-73 mph with his fastball and displayed a feel for his changeup.

Dan O’Neill, OF/MIF, Wheaton Academy HS, Class of 2014
O’Neill is an athletic 5-foot-10, 160-pound player that ran a 7.12 60. At the plate, he displayed a slap style swing that found the barrel.

Alvin Perez, SS/RHP, Providence Catholic HS, Class of 2014
Perez is a physically advanced, athletic 5-foot-11, 190-pound player. Offensively, Perez showcased a balanced swing and solid lower half. Perez displayed a short and level path though the ball. Perez additionally showed some bat speed and whip through the zone. He also ran a 7.31 60 and showed solid hands in the field.

Brady Roberts, C, Marmion Academy HS, Class of 2014
Offensively, Roberts showcased above average bat speed and a dynamic lower half. Roberts started in an open stance and showed good balance throughout his swing. He consistently squared up the ball hitting line drives. Defensively, the 5-foot-8, 185-pound catcher threw a pop time of a 2.34.
