PBR Top Prospect Showcase Analysis: 2013 Catchers



Today, we look at the catcher’s from the Class of 2013 who attended the Top Prospect Showcase on June 14th.  The event was highlighted by Bradley Margolin, an athletic catcher with excellent receiving skills who had a best pop time of 2.05 at this event.

1. Bradley Margolin, C/RHP, Glenbrook North HS, Class of 2013
Margolin is a 5-9, 175-pound multi positional player who showcased his versatility at the event with quick feet and a strong arm from the behind the plate.  His best pop time was 2.05 and he topped at 78 mph to second base.   He also clocked in one of the fastest 60 times of the event at 6.76. From the outfield, Margolin displayed a strong arm topping at 86 mph.  On the bump, Margolin showcased a fastball with run that topped at 85 mph and a slider that sat at 78 mph.  He also threw a changeup at 69-71 mph.  Additionally, Margolin had a line drive swing, spraying balls to all fields.

2. Zach Trusk, C/3B, Plainfield North HS, Class of 2013
Trusk is a 5-foot-9, 180-pound multi positional player who displayed solid skills from behind the plate.  He showed good feet and a best pop time of 1.98 while topping at 75 mph.  Offensively, Trusk hit from a crouched stance, with some good actions through the zone.

3. Bill Hayes, C, Lemont, Class of 2013
Hayes is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound catcher who was solid behind the plate with a pop time of 2.03 and a strong arm to second base (79 mph).  Offensively, Hayes displayed a solid lower half and good balance through contact.  Additionally, Hayes ran a 7.25 60.

4. Martin Napleton, C/1B, St. Rita, Class of 2013
Napleton is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound multi positional player who showcased plus power at the plate.  Napleton exhibited an aggressive swing, which translated to consistent line drives to the outfield.  Behind the dish, he showed solid skills topping at 76 mph and a best pop time of 2.01.  Additionally, Napleton topped at 79 mph across the diamond from first base.

5. Anthony Drago, C/1B, Lake Zurich HS, Class of 2013
Drago is a 6-foot-1, 205-pound multi positional player who showcased an open stance from the left side of the plate.  Drago exhibited an aggressive, but smooth swing with impressive barrel whip and balance through the zone.  He also showed plus pull side power driving balls deep in the right center gap.  Additionally, Drago had a best pop time of 2.07.

6. Evan Regez, C, Herscher HS, Class of 2013
Regez is a 6-foot-1, 155-pound catcher who showcased a line drive swing from the left side, squaring up balls to all fields.  Behind the plate, Regez had a best pop time of 2.04 and topped at 71 mph to second base.

7. Johnny Stevenson, C, Morgan Park, Class of 2013
Stevenson is a 6-foot-1, 200-pound catcher who displayed solid blocking skills and quick feet.  His best pop time was 2.06.  Offensively, Stevenson showcased barrel whip which translated to some pop at the plate.

8. Elbert Dunnigan, C/RHP/INF, Simeon, Class of 2013
Dunnigan is a 5-foot-9, 165-pound multi positional top talent who showcased his versatility at the event.  On the mound, Dunnigan impressed his hard fastball that topped at 87 mph and his solid knuckleball that sat at 65-67.  He also featured a curveball that sat at 69 mph.  Behind the dish, Dunnigan showcased a strong and accurate arm (79 mph), with a best pop time of 2.00.  Additionally, Dunnigan topped at 83 mph across the diamond.

9. Seth Rosenberg, C/RHP, New Trier HS, Class of 2013
Rosenberg is a 6-foot, 200-pound multi positional player that showed a hard fastball that topped at 87 mph.  His curveball sat at 69-72 mph and his changeup sat at 79-80 mph.  Behind the plate, Rosenberg had a best pop time of 2.05 and a velocity of 76 mph.  Offensively, he showed solid bat speed and pull side power.

10. Regynold Johnson, RHP/C, Marian Catholic, Class of 2013
Johnson is a 6-foot-1, 155-pound multi positional talent who impressed with his arm strength at the event.  On the mound, Johnson featured a heavy fastball that topped at an even best 89 mph.  His slider was firm with late bite that sat at 75-77 mph and his changeup was thrown with solid arm speed and depth at 78-83 mph.  Offensively, Johnson showed a line drive swing with power potential.  Behind the dish, Johnson exhibited solid footwork and had a best pop time of 2.08.  Additionally, he topped at 78 mph to second best.

Darien Clifton, C/1B, Simeon, Class of 2013
Clifton is a 5-foot-8, 170-pound multi positional player who had a best pop time of 2.18.  From first base he topped at 76 mph across the diamond.  Additionally, Clifton ran a 7.66 60.

Brian Czyl, MIF/C, Lisle HS, Class of 2013
Czyl is a 5-foot-9, 160-pound multi positional player with a line drive swing and solid hard contact.  Behind the dish, Czyl had a best pop time of 2.33 and a top velocity of 69 mph.  He ran a 7.73 60.

Will Payne, C/MIF, St. Ignatius, Class of 2013
Payne is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound multi positional talent with solid actions defensively with a best pop time of 2.08 and throwing 77 mph to second base.  Offensively, Payne is a switch hitter with a line drive swing with solid power.

Michael Viverito, C, Conant, Class of 2013
Viverito is a 6-foot-3, 185-pound catcher who displayed best pop time of 2.15, while he topped at 71 mph to second base.  Additionally, Viverito ran a 7.94 60.
