Champaign Central junior 3B/RHP/C Joe Aeilts has been a huge part of the early season success for the No. 7 ranked Maroons, currently sitting at 15-1. In the past week, Aeilts helped Central to five wins both on the mound and at the plate, where he went 9-for-15.

In a win over Danville on Friday, Aeilts went 4-for-4 at the plate, tying the school record with two triples.

He added seven RBI, seven stolen bases, and scored five runs during the week.

On the mound, the lanky and athletic 6-foot-2, 185-pounder tossed three scoreless innings against Mt. Zion on Wednesday, striking out seven batters, and also pitched three innings against Normal Community on Saturday, recording a save.

The Maroons defeated Danville 8-1 on Tuesday, Mt. Zion 4-0 on Wednesday, Danville 12-2 on Friday, and swept Normal Community 11-0 and 7-6 on Saturday.

Aeilts has been an integral part of the Champaign Central’s continued team success. He started as a sophomore at third base on last year’s 35-3 sectional semi-final team, and broke the school’s single season record for hits in a season (63) and triples (10), finishing with a .512 batting average.

In 2015 Aeilts is doing more of the same, currently hitting .537, while posting a 1.85 ERA in 10 1/3 innings with 16 strikeouts and only two walks on the mound.

For his efforts, Aeilts has been named the Porsche Exchange Player of the Week for the week of April 13-20.

The Porsche Exchange salutes Aeilts’ hard work and success.
