Porsche Exchange Player of the Week: Michael Rothmund

By Sean Duncan
Executive Director

Mike RothmundPutting up big offensive numbers is nothing new for Mike Rothmund. The 6-foot-5, 215-pound first baseman has been doing that since his sophomore year at Willowbrook HS. But what Rothmund accomplished last week, well, he delivered a season’s worth at statistics in a six-game span.

Last week, Rothmund went 12-for-22 with a remarkable 17 RBI. Of his 12 hits, eight went for extra bases: three home runs, three doubles and two triples. He scored nine runs, and, it bears repeating, he drove in 17.

“Mike isn’t a stat guy,” said Willowbrook coach Victor Wisner. “He prepares every day as hard as he can to be the best he can be. He puts the work in and it’s great to see success coming from that hard work.”

Not coincidentally, Willowbrook went 5-1 last week. In a sweep of Addison Trail on Friday and Saturday, he went 4-for-7 with six RBI, a homer and a triple. He also homered against Glenbard North and Proviso East.

For the season, Rothmnd is batting .515 with four homers, three triples, three doubles, 22 RBI and 12 runs. He has a 1.152 slugging percentage and has only struck out twice. Rothmund is committed to the University of Illinois-Springfield.

“As a player, Mike has been a starter since he was a sophomore when he hit .450 and drove in over 45 RBI,” Wisner said. “He is the kind of leader that every coach dreams about.  He leads not only on the field, but in the classroom.”

The Porsche Exchange salutes Rothmund’s hard work and success.
