Preseason I.D. - Gurnee: Stats Posted

By Drew Locascio
Illinois Scouting Director

The Preseason I.D. - Gurnee Showcase took place on Sunday, February 21st at Bat Speed Academy in Gurnee, IL. 114 players took place in a pro style workout in front of the PBR Scouting Staff.

RHP Quinn Priester (Cary-Grove HS, 2019) stole the show on the mound. The freshman right-hander sat 85-86 mph and touched 87. Flashed a three-pitch mix with feel for all of them. His changeup has plus potential and curveball had good shape at 72-74 mph. Priester is one of the top freshman arms in Illinois and should be a high follow moving forward.

RHP Korey Soetaert (Wauconda HS, 2017) is an intriguing arm who sat 83-85 mph with a loose, quick arm action. He also throws a firm slider with tight spin at 74-77 mph.

Athletic, left-handed hitting freshman shortstop Clark Elliott (Barrington HS) tied for an event best 3.94 home-to-first time. Offensively, has some looseness in his swing and a line-drive approach.

Infielder Sam Fradin (Deerfield HS, 2017) showed some big tools on Sunday, leading the way in both infield velocity and exit velocity. Fradin was clocked at 91 mph across the infield and registered a 96 mph exit velocity.

Freshman Andrew Wiegman (Carmel Catholic HS, 2019) is another high level freshman who was at the event on Sunday. He was clocked at 90 mph from the outfield and also 83 mph across the diamond. Wiegman continued to impress by running a 4.04 home-to-first and registered an 89 mph exit velocity. We have also seen him run his fastball into the low 80’s on the mound in the past.

6-foot-2, 175-pound LHP Sonny Mentone (Antioch HS, 2017) sat 82-84 mph, touching 85 and also spun a sharp curveball with depth, clocked at 66-67 mph.
