Prep Baseball Report

Quick recap of highlights from yesterday's Unsigned Senior Showcase

By Steve Nielsen

Yesterday’s Unsigned Senior Showcase was one of the best Unsigned Senior events the Prep Baseball Report has ever hosted. With over 50 colleges in attendance the talent pool was extremely deep, after starting the day off with over 40 infielders showcasing their skills, the talent just kept pouring in throughout the day. The outfielders took to the field next highlighted by some blazing 60 times and a 94-96 mph cannon from the outfield by Jeremiah Figueroa (Clemente HS, 2013). The catching session saw a number of guys post good pop times in the 1.9-2.1 range. The day concluded with the pitchers where we saw a parade of good arms highlighted by the 89-91 mph Brian Jestice (Fremd HS, 2013).

Stewart Nelson (Lyons Township, 2013) led the infielders’ group posting a 6.58 in the 60 while showing smooth defensive actions and great bat control peppering the right center gap. Along with Nelson, Connor Kopach (Downers Grove North, 2013) showed his wheels with a 6.79 which played well at shortstop showing great range and athleticism.

The outfield group started off like a good old fashion track meet, with plenty of sub 7.0 runners Mike Farnan (Stagg, 2013) took top honors with a 6.59 60 while showing great athleticism in the outfield and a strong bat at the plate featuring some opposite field pop. Jeremiah Figueroa stole the show putting his arm on display, posting a PBR Illinois event record 96 mph from the outfield.

The pitchers closed out the day with a bevy of arms putting their stuff on display. Brian Jestice posted the best velocity at 89-91 mph. While big bodied left handed pitcher Joey Marciano (Clemente HS, 2013) sat 85-87 mph with a sharp downward breaking ball. Ryan Dunne (Peoria Richwoods, 2013) also pounded the zone with a hard sharp breaking ball while sitting at 86-88 mph touching 89.

More scouting reports and stats will be posted throughout the week so check back frequently for all the updates.
