Senior Games: Quick Hits

The Senior Games took place on Tuesday, August 8th at Triton College in River Grove, IL. The event featured over 100 uncommitted 2018’s, almost all of them hailing from Illinois.

Today we take an early look at some of the notable performances from the day.

QUICK HITS

 

  • Caleb Durbin (Lake Forest) showed well at the dish going 2-for-2 in game play with a single and a double. Durbin showed good actions with an above average arm on the infield as well.
  • St. Rita OF Drew Komendant showed well from the left side of the plate. Komendant has a gap to gap approach and went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles.
  • Left-handed hitting Brett Riegler (Downers Grove South) is an active and vocal catcher on the diamond who commands his infield and is an above average defensive catcher who turned in the best pop times of the event at 2.05.
  • RHP Evan Waddell (Belvidere North) is an imposing figure on the mound at 6-foot-5, 210-pounds while running his fastball up to 86 mph.
  • Two outfielders with above average speed who showed well were Nick Angel (Libertyville) and Max Snowden (Grayslake Central). Angel ran a 6.79 60 and took one of the top rounds of BP on the day. Snowden ran the top 60 of the day; 6.77.
  • OF Nolan Unger (Grant) stood out defensively during gameplay with his instincts, quick first step and strong arm, clocked at 86 mph. At the plate, the right-handed hitter has an aggressive approach and looks to drive the baseball with authority.
  • OF Corey Hall (Champaign Centennial) turned in a dynamic line on Tuesday. Hall ran a 6.83, threw it 88 mph from the outfield and posted a 90 mph exit velocity off the tee.
  • 6-foot-4, 185-pound RHP Nick Shelton (Sandburg) featured the best fastball of the event topping out at 89 mph. He complimented his fastball with a curveball at 71-72 mph with 12-6 shape and sharp breaking action.
  • RHPs Brendan Barrette (Oak Park-River Forest) and Anthony Scanlon (Mount Carmel) both impressed in their inning on the mound topping out at 85 mph with their fastballs. Barrette featured a tight breaking slider with sharp action at 71-74 mph. Gage Olszak (St, Laurence) worked 80-82 topping out at 83 mph with running action.
  • Benton Troehler (Grayslake Central) is a strong right-handed hitting catcher who flashed pull-side power, hitting a homerun to left field in his round of batting practice. Troehler, consistently found the barrel and showed the ability to backspin the baseball.
  • RHP Scott Bonebrake (Libertyville) had one of the better arms of the day.The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Bonebrake showcased a sharp breaking ball to go along with his 83-85 mph fastball as well.
  • 6-foot-1, 185-pound LHP Simon Herold (Minooka) ran his fastball up to 83 mph in game play.
