Shadid brothers put Peoria Notre Dame in fast lane

The Shadid brothers – Andrew and Luke – can enjoy some healthy dinner-table debate as to whom exactly is the better athlete of the two.

Andrew, a Class of 2015 OF/C, is a physically strong 6-foot, 180-pound athlete who ran a 6.82 60 at the PBR Illinois Top Prospect Showcase in June. Then there’s Luke, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound shortstop who was one of the clear standouts at the PBR Class of 2016 Top Prospect Games at UIC last week. Luke, who features developed shoulders and a strong lower half, ran a 6.88 60 earlier in June.

Both Shadid brothers are also football standouts at Peoria Notre Dame HS, and both are highly ranked baseball prospects in their respective class.

Andrew Shadid will represent Team Illinois at the Midwest Future Games this weekend at Indiana University, where he will play the outfield and catcher. Andrew burst onto the scene this spring, as he earned third-team PBR All-State outfield honors. As a sophomore, he tallied 17 doubles, six triples, five homers, 37 runs, 32 RBI and 55 hits while batting .504 for Notre Dame.

Andrew covers a lot of ground in the outfield with his speed. He also has showed promise behind the plate, where he registered consistent 2.00-2.08 pop times and was clocked at 78 mph from the crouch.

Peoria Notre Dame should become a recruiting hotspot in the coming years. Along with the Shadid brothers, Notre Dame also features 6-foot-4 LHP/1B Jake Hurst, who will also represent Team Illinois at the Midwest Future Games.
