Stadler, Glenbrook South Dominate Carmel

MUNDELEIN, IL – Pitching in less than desirable conditions, Glenbrook South right-hander Fitz Stadler certainly made the most out of the opportunity. The 6-foot-9, 230-pound Arizona State recruit completely dominated host Carmel, throwing a five-inning no-hitter in a 15-1 whitewash on a frigid Tuesday afternoon.

Stadler (2-1) received little resistance from the Corsairs (3-6), as he struck out 11 and walked two in his five innings of work. At one point between the first and third innings, Stadler struck out six straight, chiefly behind his 85-88 mph fastball, touching 89 twice in the first.

Meanwhile, Glenbrook South (4-3) came off the bus swinging the bats. The Titans poured on six runs in the first inning behind six hits. At one point, Glenbrook South reeled off five consecutive hits, including back-to-back run-scoring doubles by senior 1B Ben Samborn and junior 3B Justin Machado. Sophomore left-handed hitting SS Cameron Pauly also had a two-run single in the inning.  Senior 2B George Karavidas tallied three singles and a walk on the day for the Titans.

Carmel’s lone run was scored in the fourth on a pair of infield errors sandwiched around a walk. Stadler proceeded to strike out the next two batters to escape further incident.

More in-depth scouting notes with be posted in the Illinois Scout Blog later.
