By Steve Nielsen

The Preseason All-State once again put on a show as a number of ranked players showed off their skill set to our scouting staff at Prep Baseball Report.

As we look through the list of stats here are a few of the highlights from the event.

Twenty players from the list of position players ran the 60 in under 7.0. That includes four that registered times in the 6.6 range, SS Don Buonavolnto (Hinsdale South HS), OF Aaron Fuller (St. Rita HS), OF Darius Day (Simeon HS) and OF Braden Mosley (Moline HS).

Three outfielders eclipsed the 90 mph mark with Darius Day (Simeon HS), Mizraim Fuentes (Roberto Clemente HS), and Andrew Owen (Loyola HS). We also saw some strong arms across the infield as Rahman Williams (Morgan Park HS) and Mario Tursi (Glenbrook South HS) were 85 mph and Tyler Hasper (Waubonsie Valley HS) was 88 mph from third base. Other strong arms included catcher Mark Skonieczny (Huntley HS) who hit 81 mph from the crouch.

The arm strength on the mound was equally impressive as eight pitchers topped out at 88 mph or better.  RHP Brian Hobbie (Glenwood HS), RHP Tanner Houck (Collinsville HS), RHP Alex Hitney (St. Laurence HS), LHP Darius Day (Simeon HS), RHP Tyler Hasper (Waubonsie Valley HS), RHP Andrew Owen (Loyola HS) and RHP Gabe Jelley (Zeigler Royalton HS) all touched 88 mph, while Luke Morgan (Lincoln-Way West) hit 90 mph on his last pitch.
