Scouting Director - Illinois

Today’s stock report features Joe Becht. Becht, a 2014 graduate of Downers Grove South HS, is a 5-foot-10, 155-pound multi-positional player with an extremely versatile game. He shows a high level of athleticism that translates well to both the infield and outfield.

The multi-positional Becht was a West Suburban Gold All-Conference selection after his sophomore campaign for the Mustangs.

We recently saw Becht at the Preseason All-State showcase where he ranked in the top ten of both the infielders and outfielders.

Becht is an athletically built, 5-foot-10, 155-pound multi positional player. Defensively he plays athletically and shows the ability to play multiple positions. In the outfield Becht plays aggressively to and through the baseball, uses crow hop well and shows athletic feet. His arm works well defensively using a loose arm action and showing accuracy at 85 mph from the outfield and 79 mph from the infield. On the infield he shows solid hands, a quick exchange of the baseball and his arm works athletically.

Offensively, Becht hits from the left side using a balanced setup that starts slightly open. He uses a smooth load and short stride. His bat path is short and shows good bat speed. Becht has a line drive approach showing excellent bat control.

Becht projects as an athlete who can play multiple positions at the next level and hit from the left side, controlling the bat well.
