Hobbie came onto the scene early as a sophomore at the Illinois Prospect Identification Showcase in September 2011. He was physically advanced at 6-foot-4, 190 pounds and pitched with a fastball up to 82 mph from an over-the-top arm slot. He also demonstrated good feel for his secondary stuff. A little more than a year later, at the 2013 Illinois Preseason All-State Showcase, Hobbie had added some strength and was standing at 6-foot-5, 215 pounds. That helped him to add some velocity to his arsenal as his fastball was sitting 87-88 with a low 70s curveball and 76-77 changeup. His fastball has late run and he works with an athletic delivery, getting downhill hill well with good extension.
