Unsigned Senior Games: Pitcher Analysis

The Unsigned Senior Games took place on August 9th at Hoffer Field on the campus of Judson University in Elgin, IL. Position players took part in a pro-style workout in the morning followed by game play in the afternoon.

Following the event, the PBR scouting staff compiled all of the notes from the workout and game play. Over the next few days we will finish breaking down the event position by position. Last week we began the analysis with catcher's and today we take a look at the pitchers in attendance.

Below is a list of the top 10 pitchers from the Unsigned Senior Games.

TOP PITCHERS

1. Ryan Loutos, RHP, Barrington, 2017
6-foot-4, 205-pound, athletic, wide shouldered, projectable right-handed pitcher. One of the top 2017 arms still available. Clean, easy delivery, stays in line, lands square, finishes athletically. Long, loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Ability to work both sides of the plate. Fastball, flashed late arm side run, thrown for strikes; sat 84-87 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, gradual break, 70-72 mph. Cutter, maintains arm speed, 10/4 shape, 78 mph.

2. Josh Currier, LHP, Lincoln-Way Central, 2017
6-foot-5, 180-pound, lanky, athletic, left-handed pitcher. On the mound, works only from the stretch. Pitches with smooth rhythm, stays in-line, lands square, finishes athletically. Long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, arm side run, down in the zone, heavy action, 81-84 mph. Slider, 1/7 shape, tight, short break, 70-73 mph. Changeup, maintains arm speed well, works mostly straight, 72-73 mph.

3. Carter Lawler, RHP/OF, Hampshire, 2017
Recent Illinois-Springfield commit. 6-foot-2, 185-pound, athletic, two-way prospect. On the mound, right-handed pitcher with three pitch fell. Smooth rhythm, stays on line, lands square, finishes athletically, repeats well.  Long, loose, quick arm from a ¾ slot. Fastball, features slight run, sat 83-84 mph. Curveball, thrown for strikes, 11/5 shape, 69-71 mph. Changeup, near fastball arm speed, fade movement, sat 71-74 mph. Offensively, left-handed hitter, flashed bat speed, gap-to-gap approach, uphill path through the zone; exit velocity registered at 89 mph. Open setup with a smooth load. Defensively, reliable hands, showed athletic actions. Flashed a long, accurate arm from a ¾ to low ¾ arm slot; throws clocked at 77 mph across the infield. 7.58 runner in the laser timed 60.

4. Shane Nolan, RHP, Lake Zurich, 2017
6-foot-3, 195-pound, projectable frame, right-handed pitcher. On the mound, easy effort, works with some rhythm, stays in line. Long, loose arm from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, mostly straight, kept down in the zone, sat 81-83 mph. Slider, 10/4 shape, late action, 71-75 mph. Splitter, flashed ability to maintain arm speed, 69 mph.

5. Todd Brown, RHP, East Aurora, 2017
6-foot, 150-pound, small frame, right-handed pitcher with some projectability. Currently ranked No. 98 in the Illinois 2017 class. On the mound, tall and fall delivery, smooth rhythm, stays in line, lands square, finishes athletically. Long, loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, arm side run, sat 84-86 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, maintains arm speed, 69-71 mph. Changeup, 70-74 mph.

6. Tim Dobrik, LHP, Sandburg, 2017
6-foot-2, 175-pound, lanky, left-handed pitcher. Tall and fall delivery, closed front side. Arm works short and out of a high ¾ window. Fastball, thrown for strikes, works mostly straight, sat 80-82 mph. Curveball, 1/7 shape, gradual action, 68-71 mph.

7. Connor Lowman, LHP, Lincoln-Way West, 2017
6-foot, 180-pound, strong, projectable, left-handed pitcher. On the mound, works with an open front side. Long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, features arm side run,  sat 81-84 mph. Curveball, 1/7 shape, 70-71 mph. Changeup, flashed sink action, 75-76 mph.

8. Karson Aherin, LHP, Glenwood, 2017
6-foot-5, 175-pound, long, lanky, left-handed pitcher. On the mound, drop and drive delivery, smooth rhythm, in-line direction, lands square, finishes athletically. Short, quick arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, slight arm side run, sat 78-80 mph. Curveball, 1/7 shape, depth, 64-66 mph. Changeup, works mostly straight, thrown for strikes, 70 mph.

9. Adam Walker, 1B/RHP, South Elgin, 2017
6-foot-1, 180-pound, lanky, athletic, two-way prospect. Offensively, right-handed hitter, flashed bat speed, fluid rhythm, gap-to-gap approach, long bat path; exit velocity clocked at 95 mph. Balanced setup, short stride, quick twitch. Defensively, reliable hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange, fields position athletically. Long, loose, accurate arm from a high ¾ slot; throws clocked at 78 mph across the diamond. 7.33 runner in the laser timed 60. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, tall and fall delivery, flashed rhythm, lands slightly closed. Fastball, thrown for strikes, mostly straight, sat 80-82 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, thrown for strikes, 68-70 mph.

10. Bradley Demkovich, LHP/OF, Jacobs, 2017
6-foot-1, 175-pound, lanky, two-way prospect. On the mound, left-handed pitcher, stays in line, lands square. Flashed a long, quick arm from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, flashed arm side run, sat 81-82 mph. Curveball, 1/7 shape, thrown for strikes, 69-71 mph. Changeup, 75 mph. Offensively, left-handed hitter, uphill path, pull approach. Balanced setup, short stride; exit velocity registered at 82 mph. Defensively, long arm from a high ¾ to ¾ arm slot; throws clocked at 77 mph from the outfield. 7.09 runner in the laser timed 60.

6-foot-2, 185-pound, athletic, right-handed pitcher. On the mound, flashed easy effort with rhythm, stays in line, lands square, finishes upright. Long arm action from a low ¾ slot. Fastball, features arm side run, thrown for strikes, sat 77-78 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, some sweep action at times, 66-68 mph. Changeup, showed  ability to maintain arm speed, flashed fade action, 73 mph.

Cody Gale, RHP, Conant, 2017
6-foot-1, 160-pound, long and lean, right-handed pitcher. On the mound, drop and drive delivery, stays on line throughout. Short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, mostly straight, 71-73 mph. Curveball, gradual break, 61-62 mph. Changeup sat 67 mph.

David Lauber, OF/RHP, Burlington Central, 2017
6-foot-1, 155-pound, athletic, two-way prospect. Ran a 7.06 in the laser timed 60. Offensively, uphill path, pull approach, flashed bat speed; exit velocity clocked at 87 mph. Open setup, drop and drive, showed ability to make hard contact. Defensively, fluid footwork, quick exchange, fields position athletically. Flashed a long, quick, accurate arm from a high ¾ slot; throws registered at 80 mph from the outfield. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, easy effort, stays in line, lands closed. Short arm action from an over the top slot. Fastball, thrown for strikes, mostly straight, 74-76 mph. Changeup, 72 mph.

Jordan Litke, RHP, Warren, 2017
6-foot-3, 200-pound, athletic, right-handed pitcher. Flashed a three pitch feel. Works across body, lands closed. Long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, worked mostly straight, occasional run, sat 79-81 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, gradual action, 64-66 mph. Changeup, maintains arm speed well, mostly straight, 69-71 mph.

Deston Martin, OF/RHP, Minooka, 2017
6-foot-3, 175-pound, lanky, two-way prospect. Easy smooth runner, long strider, 6.97 runner in the laser timed 60. Offensively, right-handed hitter, loose hands and long, uphill path. Open setup, smooth load, short leg-lift stride; exit velocity registered at 81 mph. Defensively, fields athletically, clean exchange. Arm works from an over the top to high ¾ arm slot; throws clocked at 79 mph from the outfield. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, rhythm throughout delivery, gets down the mound. Short arm action from an over the top slot. Fastball, mostly straight, 74-75 mph, touched 77. Curveball, 67-68 mph.

Christian McCauley, RHP, Lake Forest, 2017
5-foot-11, 175-pound, right-handed pitcher. On the mound, simple delivery, stays on line, lands slightly closed. Short arm action from an over the top angle. Fastball, mostly straight, sat 75-77 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, thrown for strikes, 61-63 mph.

Jonathan Montalvo, RHP, St. Patrick, 2017
5-foot-11, 215-pounds, stocky, right-handed pitcher. On the mound, flashed rhythm,, stays in line, lands square. Only works from the stretch. Short, loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, thrown for strikes, works mostly straight, 78-80 mph. Curveball, has feel, 11/5 shape, late action, near fastball arm speed, 69-72 mph. Changeup, 76 mph.

Caleb Poffenberger, LHP/OF, Forreston, 2017
5-foot-11, 185-pound, strong framed, two-way prospect. On the mound, smooth rhythm, stays in line, lands square. Short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, mostly straight, kept it down, sat 75-77 mph. Curveball, 1/7 shape, gradual action, 70-71 mph. Changeup, mostly straight, sat 70 mph. Offensively, left-handed hitter, long, uphill path, gap-to-gap approach, flashed hard contact; exit velocity clocked at 89 mph. James Raffauf, RHP/3B, Marian Central Catholic, 2017
6-foot-3, 170-pound, lanky, two-way prospect. Defensively, soft hands, fluid footwork, quick, clean exchange, athletic fielder. Flashed an a long, loose, accurate arm from a high ¾ slot; throws clocked at 75 mph across the infield. Offensively, right-handed hitter, line drive approach, long path,; exit velocity clocked at 85 mph. Balanced setup, short stride, maintains balance through contact. 7.66 runner in the laser timed 60. On the mound, flashed rhythm, delivery features some effort, slight crossfire, lands closed. Long arm from an over the top slot. Fastball, mostly straight, sat 79-82 mph.
