Unsigned Senior Showcase: Stats Posted

The Prep Baseball Report’s Unsigned Senior Showcase took place on Sunday October 12th indoors at The MAX in McCook. The event featured 98 uncommitted prospects in Illinois’ 2015 class and included over forty college programs in attendance.

Speed was one of the highlighted tools in abundance, as 13 players ran sub-7.00 second 60-yard dashes. Waukesha West’s (WI) Chase Sharnek took home top honors with a 6.68.

Grayslake Central’s David Llorens showed improved velocity from the left side, sitting 85-86 mph, topping out at 88. The 6-foot-4, projectable left-hander saw 76-81 mph just one year ago at the Class of 2015 Showcase. St. Charles North’s Sam Hubbe has also gained velocity since February’s Preseason All-State Showcase, and has been impressive on the summer showcase circuit. Lisle’s George Swedie topped at 86 mph, while also showing off a nasty 73-75 mph splitter.

Switch-hitting third baseman Esteban Martinez ran a 6.78 60, flashed above average hitting ability from both sides of the plate, and also showed off 83 mph arm strength across the diamond, tied for tops at the event with St. Laurence’s Frank Greco.

Scharnek continued to impress with his overall athleticism, showing off the top outfield arm throwing 92 mph. Morgan Park teammates Tyler Hill and Martin Murrell also showed off premium arm strenghth, topping at 90 and 89 respectively.

Andrew’s Ramon Padilla rattled off pop times between 2.01-2.09 with accuracy. Plainfield Central’s Josh Tesch took home top honors with a 2.00 pop time. Kenwood’s Joe Lucas threw 79 mph from the crouch, and also impressed with power from the left side of the plate.

Bay Port’s Zach Abfall took home top honors with 92 mph exit velocity, followed closely by Riverside-Brookfield’s Jake Surprenant and Stagg’s Brett Stratinsky. Stratinsky boasts a huge 6-foot-5, 205-pound frame and offers power projection from the left side.
