Unsigned Senior Spotlight: LHP Tyler Feece

By Steve Nielsen

Today’s Player Spotlight is on unsigned senior Tyler Feece. Feece is a left-handed pitcher and outfielder hailing from Vernon Hills HS. Last season Feece led the Cougars in many statistical categories, going 12-2 on the mound with a 0.77 ERA, posting 79 strikeouts in 54 2/3 innings pitched, all while hitting over .400. Feece earned PBR third-team All-State honors.

Feece is a 5-foot-10, 175-pound left-handed pitcher who throws from a high ¾ slot and exhibits good command of three pitches. His repertoire showcases a fastball that tops out at 86 mph and sits in the 83-84 mph range. He throws his off-speed pitches with confidence. His 65-68 mph curveball is tight and sharp, while his 73-76 mph changeup demonstrates sink down in the zone.

Feece shows well in all facets of the game. Defensively, he moves athletically and possesses a strong arm (80 mph) with carry from the outfield. At the plate, the 5-foot-10 Feece uses a wide base, and compact swing to consistently square up the ball.

Look for Feece to be a big asset in the success of Cougar baseball in 2013, both on the mound and with the bat. He hopes to lead the Vernon Hills HS to another 30-win season.
