Unsigned Senior Spotlight: RHP Connor Ryan

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director - Illinois

Today’s unsigned senior spotlight highlights right handed pitcher Connor Ryan. Ryan is a projectable right handed pitcher from Lockport HS. Last season Ryan pitched 24 1/3 innings going 2-1 on the year with 3 saves, while posting an ERA of 2.59 for the year.

Connor Ryan is a slender right handed pitcher who possesses a projectable frame at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds. His arm works well, clean and repeatable throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. He uses a short arm action that shows quickness. His tall and fall delivery shows easy effort demonstrating smooth rhythm and working directionally. His delivery stays on line and finishes in an upright position, showing little use of his lower half.

Ryan shows a four and two seam fastball. His four seamer sits at 83-85 mph showing control and little movement. His two seam fastball shows more action demonstrating late hard arm side run at 82-83 mph while showing command. His changeup shows excellent deception, thrown with fastball arm speed. He commands the zone with run and sink at 76-79 mph; this has the potential to be a plus pitch for Ryan. His slider still needs polish sitting at 72-74 mph with minimal action. When thrown harder (75 mph) he flashes late sharp action on the pitch.

Ryan has a highly projectable frame coupled with a quick clean arm action that could lead to velocity spikes in the future when he fills out and gets stronger. Ryan will be an interesting prospect to follow this spring.
