Updated 2018 Illinois Rankings: Top Shortstops

On Monday of last week the 2018 rankings were updated and expanded from 35 to 75. The depth of the 2018 class has strengthened considerably since the last update due to the numerous events over the winter.

There are now 16 shortstops ranked in the sophomore class. Illinois recruit, Branden Comia (Sandburg) is the head of the class when it comes to shortstops. 5-foot-11, 185-pound Comia has a premium right-handed bat and athletic actions on the infield. Confident, soft hands and plays well on the move with a knack for making the tough play. Comia is ranked No. 6 in Illinois and No. 108 overall.

Another infielder to keep an eye on is Hayden Laczynski (Minooka). Laczynki, the No. 2 ranked shortstop in Illinois, is a left-handed hitter with speed. Early on this spring season he was 4.07 down the line. Started on varsity as a freshman.
