Updated Illinois Power 25 Team Rankings

This is the fifth installment of the Illinois Power 25 Team Rankings. High school baseball is now in full swing across the state and we once again have a new team at the top. Brother Rice has won 19 straight games and last week they defeated No. 3 St. Rita to help propel them to No. 1 in the Power Rankings.

Below is a breakdown of the movement in this week’s Power 25:

Climbing

+ Brother Rice (20-2) – The Crusaders have been a steady riser over the past few weeks and now sit atop the rankings after their 19th straight win on Saturday. They were 3-0 on the week with wins over Loyola, No. 14 St. Francis and No. 7 St. Rita.

+ O’Fallon (20-3) – The Panthers only lost one game in April and has been another steady riser in the Power 25. Defeated Alton 7-0 in their only game this past week. Now No. 2.

+ St. Laurence (17-4) – Now No. 4 after a perfect 3-0 this past week. Knocked off No. 3 Mount Carmel, No. 9 Providence and Loyola.

+ Plainfield North (15-2) – The preseason No. 1 team in Illinois has been playing solid baseball as of late and has slowly been climbing in the Power 25. Went 2-0 on the week beating Oswego East 6-2 and 6-1. Now No. 6.

+ Edwardsville (19-4) – Went 3-0 on the week defeating East St. Louis, Collinsville and Wesclin. Now sits at No. 8.

+ Waterloo (15-4) – Now No. 16. 3-0 this past week. Gave up four runs in three games defeating Centralia, Highland and Mascoutah.

+ Moline (19-3) – Now is in the Top 20. Went 2-0 this past week. Defeated Rock Island and United Township, giving up only one run on the week.

Sinking

+ Mount Carmel (17-3) – Dropped from No. 1 to No. 3 after going 2-1 on the week. Beat Loyola twice but lost 12-3 to No. 9 Providence.

+ St. Rita (18-4) – Fell to No. 7 after a 2-2 week. Lost to Providence and Brother Rice, both Top 10 in the Power Rankings.

+ Sandburg (13-1) – 1-1 on the week. Lost 7-4 against Lincoln-Way East, their first of the season. Also, defeated Homewood-Flossmoor 11-3.

+ Nazareth (16-4) – Dropped a couple of spots after a 2-1 week. Defeated Benet twice but lost to Carmel 10-0.

+ Sacred Heart-Griffin (19-5) – Dropped five spots after a 2-1 week. Beat Springfield Southeast twice and lost 4-3 to East Peoria.

New to the Top 25

+ No. 23 Oak Park (13-5) – Jumped back into the rankings after a 4-0 week including a win over No. 15 Hinsdale South. Also, beat Downers Grove North, York and Hinsdale Central.

+ No. 24 Prairie Ridge (18-5) – Went 3-0 on the week and have won eight of their last nine games. Knocked off Marengo, Grant and Woodstock North this week.

+ No. 25 Champaign Central (18-5) – Another team that went 3-0 this week and got back in the Top 25 once again. Beat Urbana twice and Normal West once.
