Weekly Diamond Notes

By Ryan Quigley
Illinois Scouting Director

Several players narrowly missed out in winning this week’s Porsche Exchange Player of the Week, which we will highlight in our weekly Diamond Notes. High School Coaches: Please email in your Player of the Week nominations by Tuesday at 10 am. For the following weeks if you can get them in on by Monday at 10 am, or Sunday is even better. Even if your player doesn't win, we will include the player's performance in the weekly Diamond Notes blog below.

  • Submissions must be emailed to Ryan Quigley at [email protected]
  • Stats for the previous week performance should span Monday through Saturday, but if a kid has an unbelievable Saturday game on the preceding Saturday, it’s OK to include Saturday through Saturday if it helps him.
  • Please be as specific as possible when submitting his week’s performance. Such as, if he had the game-winning hit, or struck out six straight … you get the point. Furthermore, also include his season statistics to include in the story.
  • We will post the Player of the Week story on Wednesday, so it is important to get the information in as soon as possible

Let’s take a look at some of the players around the state who were red hot around the diamond last week:

+ Ryan Kairis, OF/LHP, Marist, 2015
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound two-way talent has helped lead Marist to an 8-1 record under new head coach and former major leaguer Kevin Sefcik. Kairis won two games last week, allowing one earned run in 10 innings pitched on the mound, with four hits allowed, nine strikeouts, and two walks. He went 11-for-18 at the plate with six runs scored, one double, one triple, five RBI, while also going 6-for-6 in stolen bases.

+ Kevin Napoleon, RHP, St. Viator, 2016
Napoleon won two games on the mound this past week, and has helped lead the Lions to a fast 11-2 start under coach Mike Manno. He picked up a win in relief last Monday against Deerfield, firing 1.1 innings with two strikeouts. He pitched a no-hitter on Saturday against Mishictot, WI in St. Viator’s 10-0 win. The junior righthander threw six innings with thirteen strikeouts, walking one to narrowly miss out on a perfect game. He now has a 1.24 ERA on the year.

+ Nick Wisz, 1B/3B, Lemont, 2016
In five games last week, Wisz went 12-for-19 with three doubles, a home run, eight RBI, eight runs scored, and a walk.

+ Dalton Parker, RHP, St. Joseph-Ogden, 2016
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound right-handed pitcher ranked No. 26 in Illinois’ 2016 class won two games last week in dominating fashion. Parker threw two complete game shutouts against Teutopolis and Pleasant Plains. In 14 innings, he allowed three hits, no runs, 17 strikeouts and four walks. For the season the big righty has thrown 28 innings and not allowed a run, striking out 48, while only allowing six hits, good for a 0.00 ERA and a .571 WHIP.

+ Tyler Egan, 1B, Niles North, 2015
The 5-foot-11, 180-pound right-handed hitting first baseman hit .600 last week (6-for-10) with two homers, six RBI, one walk, and one stolen base.

+ Zach Dorner, RHP, Champaign Central, 2015
Senior Zach Dorner tossed a no-hitter against Windsor Stewarson-Strasburg Saturday. He threw 42 strikes and only three balls in the five-inning affair, a 10-0 win.  It is the third no-hitter the senior pitcher has been a part of during his career at Champaign Central.

+ Jim Roche, SS/RHP, Sandburg, 2015
In three games last week, the unsigned senior standout went 8-for-10 at the plate with four doubles, six RBI, seven runs, while also going 2-for-2 in stolen bases. He also earned a win in relief on the mound, throwing five innings of one-run baseball with four strikeouts against Minooka.
