Westmont downs Lisle 9-8 in back and forth battle

WESTMONT - The Westmont Sentinels won a back and forth battle on Tuesday, hanging on for a 9-8 victory over the Lisle Lions in an Interstate 8 North match up.

Lisle came out swinging in the first scoring three runs thanks in large part to an RBI double by Cliff Krause and an RBI single by Alex Ventrella. Ventrella ended up with three hits on the day going 3-for-4 with an RBI.

The Sentinels then tied the game up at 4-4 in the second scoring three runs of their own highlighted by a solo shot from Tommy Franczak and an RBI triple from Ryan Schlicher who later scored to tie the game. Schlicher finished his day with two triples and two runs scored.

Westmont took the lead in the third on a two RBI single by Greg Pietrzak.

After three more runs in the Lions fifth they took back the lead on a two RBI triple from Ryan Van Volkenburg.

Charlie Donovan got things going for Westmont in the sixth. After doubling and advancing to third on a wild pitch, Donovan scored the go ahead run on a shallow sacrifice fly by Jean Pietrzak.

The Sentinels would hold on to the lead and take a 9-8 victory from the Lions. Greg Pietrzak recorded the win in relief. Zach Moran would also go a perfect 3-for-3 for the Sentinels.
