By Phil Wade
Director, PBR Indiana

Judah ZickafooseJudah Zickafoose, currently ranked as the No. 11 prospect in the 2014 class, recently made his college choice. The 6-foot-4, 185 pound OF chose to play at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ next fall.  Grand Canyon recently began playing at the Division 1 level and is a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).

PBR: What schools were you considering?

Zickafoose: Central Michigan, D1 Junior College John Logan, and D2 Junior College Danville.

PBR: Why did you choose Grand Canyon University?

Zickafoose: I loved the atmosphere of the program, the team, and also the weather! That was a big part of my decision to go to GCU.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Zickafoose: In talking with Stankiewicz, he expects me to come in and compete.  Just like any other program I would have gone to, I would have to show them what I have to offer from a competitive standpoint.

PBR: Where did Grand Canyon first see you play?

Zickafoose: I went to their prospect camp last year. Another player from St. Louis and I were the only guys from the northern part of the U.S. there. Everyone else were local Arizona kids.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help Grand Canyon?

Zickafoose: I have a love for the game, and that is my biggest strength as a player. I will do anything and everything to help my team win the right way, and I will cheer for my teammates to succeed as well! That will help me a lot at GCU and also God willing all the way to the professional level.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Zickafoose: Multiple people have had a huge impact on me, but to start my family has played a huge role in my development as a person and also as a baseball player. My older sister introduced the game to me and also taught me how to play. My travel ball and high school coaches have all dedicated time to me to help me polish my skills and knowledge of the game.

PBR: You were a member of Team Indiana at the 2012 Midwest Future Games, describe that experience?

Zickafoose: Best experience I ever had at a showcase was with Team Indiana or as we called ourselves "Team Indy Trees.". I enjoyed playing on a college field with talent that was off the charts. I mean I never would have thought after that showcase that I would have been ranked in the top 5 of that state for 2014 Grads, it was a huge accomplishment and a great experience.

PBR: What are your goals heading into your senior year both team wise and personally?

Zickafoose: As a team I want to see how far we can go. Last year we challenged ourselves all year and we fell just short in the Sectional Championship. This year I think we all have a hunger to win and continue on. As for Myself, I'm not going to try to do too much, just play my game and have fun. It would be nice to make All-State again. That was a big accomplishment for me!
