All-State Prospect ID Showcase: Corner Infield Analysis

On Tuesday, June 9th, we hosted the All-State Prospect ID showcase at Grand Park in Westfield, IN. The event was open to all high school players and included; 2 (2015's), 13 (2016's), 19 (2017's), 23 (2018's) and 6 (2019's).  Below we analyze the corner infielders from the event.
 

IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER

Joe Burke, 1B, Jeffersonville HS, 2016: 6-foot-3, 210 pounder showcased fluid feet at 1B with sure hands.  Across the diamond was 75 mph.  Offensively, starts open and loads back.  Slight leg kick with average use of the lower half.  Shows some bat speed, recorded a high exit velo of 88 mph.  Possesses some power to his pull-side.  

Brayden Clark, 1B, Western HS, 2018: 5-foot-10, 200 pounder was 69 across the diamond from a short arm action.  Shows average hands at 1B.  Offensively, hits from an open setup with a minimal to no load.  Stride is short with average balance throughout the swing.  Level path to the ball produced line drives.  Recorded a high exit velo of 76 mph.  

Sam Edgell, 1B, Zionsville HS, 2018: 6-foot-2, 200 pound left handed hitter hits out of an athletic, open stance.  Load is smooth with a short path to the baseball.  Shows good use of the lower half.  Possesses good bat speed, recorded a high exit velo of 88 mph.  Fluid rhythm with good balance.  Showed the ability to drive the gaps.  At 1B showcased sure hands.  Long arm action across the diamond at 71 mph.  Ran a 7.25-60.  

Cade Fitzpatrick, 3B, Franklin Central HS, 2019: 5-foot-10, 165 pounder was a solid defender at 3B with average hands.  Needs to improve on playing through the baseball more.  Long arm action across the field at 67 mph.  Ran an 8.29-60.  At the plate starts from an open setup.  Loads back, hands drop.  Long stride with average bat speed.  Uphill path, pull-side hitter.  Recorded a high exit velo of 74 mph. 

Kyler Jeter, 3B, North Putnam HS, 2016: 6-foot-2, 225 pound 3B possesses average hands defensively with a quick, clean exchange.  Short arm action across the field at 75 mph with some carry.  At the plate hits from a tall, balanced setup.  Loads back using a short stride.  Short path to the baseball on a level plane.  Line drive type hitter.  Recorded a high exit velo of 86 mph.  

Tyler Jones, 3B, South Knox HS, 2015: 6-foot-1, 215 pound uncommitted 2015 was 63 mph across the diamond and ran an 8.00-60.  Fields the ball one-handed.  At the plate hits from a balanced setup, loads back.  Stride is short.  Level path to the baseball, pull-side type hitter.  Recorded a high exit velo of 84 mph.  

Justin Kelso, 3B, Avon HS, 2019: 5-foot-7, 135 pounder fielded the ball cleanly at 3B.  Exchange was clean and played through the ball well with some athleticism.  Across the diamond was 60 mph.  Will continue to improve as he physically fills out.  Offensively, hits out of a balanced, crouch type setup.  Stride is short with average balance. Long, level path to the baseball.  Registered an exit velo of 68 mph. 

Logan Long, 1B, Frankton HS, 2016
: 6-foot-1, 200 pound left handed hitter hits out of an athletic setup using a slight leg kick.  Possesses some bat speed with pull-side pop.  Tendency to get out front.  Short path to the ball.  Recorded a high exit velo of 84 mph.  Moves well at 1B with sure hands.  Short arm action, 75 across the diamond with accuracy.  

Nathan Mullen, 3B, Bremen HS, 2019: Possesses a good frame at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds.  At 3B possesses average hands and feet.  Across the field was 69 mph.  At the plate starts wide and finishes wide.  Long stride.  Has some bat speed, recorded a high exit velo of 83 mph.  Consistently barreled up the baseball showing projectable strength.    

Cameron Pitzer, 3B, New Palestine HS, 2018: 5-foot-11, 145 pounder possesses average hands at 3B. Needs to improve his footwork.  Long arm action across the field at 75 mph with some accuracy.  At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a small load back.  Stride is short.  Long path to the baseball.  Recorded a high exit velo of 79 mph.  

Gabe Reel, 3B, Hamilton Heights HS, 2018:  5-foot-10, 160 pounder showcased sure hands at 3B with solid footwork.  Exchange was clean and shows some athleticism.  Across the diamond was 71 with some accuracy.  Offensively, hits out of a balanced setup with a smooth load.  Stride is short.  Long path to the baseball.  Tendency to roll over on pitches.  Recorded a high exit velo of 74 mph. 

Lukus Rickelman, 3B, Heritage Hills HS, 2018: 6-foot, 160 pounder currently possesses average hands at 3B and was 68 across the diamond.  Ran a 8.32 60.  Offensively, hits out of a balanced setup.  Little to no stride.  Slight arm bar during the load.  Shows average bat speed with a short, uphill path to the ball. Recorded a high exit velo of 71 mph.  

Max Sermersheim, 1B, Southridge HS, 2018: 5-foot-11, 182 pound first baseman starts balanced at the plate.  Stride is short, hands drop during the load.  Lacks use of his lower half.  Long path to the baseball.  Recorded a high exit velo of 79 mph.  Across the diamond at 1B was 71 mph.  Ran a 7.33-60.  

Brian Skelton, 1B, Westfield HS, 2017: 6-foot-3, 205 pounder possesses good athleticism.  Solid defender at 1B.  72 mph across the field.  Offensively, the right-handed hitter uses a short stride with a short, level path to the baseball.  Possesses good bat speed, and gets to extension.  Recorded a high exit velo of 93 mph.  Showed power to his pull-side with good balance throughout the swing.   

Zachary Styka, 3B, Mount Carmel HS (IL), 2018: Strong, physical 6-foot, 185 pound 2018. Defensively at 3B showcased sure hands .  Showed the ability to play through the baseball with some athleticism.  Across the field was 74 mph.   Offensively, hits out of an open stance.  Loads back, short stride.  Good use of the lower half with good balance throughout the swing.  Possesses quick hands and gets to extension.  Consistently barreled up the baseball with some pop.  Recorded a high exit velo of 84 mph.  

Zach Wagner, 1B, Castle HS, 2018: 5-foot-10, 140 pound first baseman was 64 mph across the diamond from a short arm action.  Fields the ball clean.  Ran an 8.04-60.  Offensively hits out of a balanced setup using a minimal stride.  Will need to work on getting more use of his lower half.  Minimal to no load, short path to the baseball.  Shows good balance with some rhythm.  Recorded a high exit velo of 71 mph.  

Zach Wells, 1B, Center Grove HS, 2017: 6-foot-3, 230 pounds possesses average hands at 1B with a clean exchange.  Strong, accurate arm across the diamond.  Offensively hits from a balanced setup.  Loads back and uses a short stride.  Gets some use of the lower half.  Above average bat speed with the ability to drive the gaps.  Recorded a high exit velo of 89 mph.
