All-State Prospect ID Showcase: Outfielders Analysis





On Tuesday, June 9th, we hosted the All-State Prospect ID showcase at Grand Park in Westfield, IN. The event was open to all high school players and included; 2 (2015's), 13 (2016's), 19 (2017's), 23 (2018's) and 6 (2019's).  Below we analyze the outfielders from the event.

IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER

Jacob Dixon, OF, Portage HS, 2016:  The 6-foot-3 225 pound outfielder ran a 7.5 60 yd dash.  Arm action was loose and throws had accuracy.  Footwork was fluid and exchange was clean.  Velocity from the outfield was 83.  Offensively, Jacob produced an exit velo of 101.  Setup is balanced with a short load.  Backside is explosive and hands were quick.  Jacob gets good extension and produced line drives during batting practice.

Brandon Dunham, OF, Dekalb HS 2017:  The 5-foot-11 165 pound outfielder has a high arm slot with loose actions.  Defensively, he plays through the baseball with fluid footwork and a clean exchange.  Throws were accurate with carry.  Top outfield velocity was 80mph.  Brandon ran a 7.38 60 yd dash.

Nolan Gray, OF, Evansville North HS, 2019:  The 5-foot-8 178 pound OF/RHP threw from a ¾ arm slot with average arm strength.   Throws were on line with some accuracy and topped at 75mph.  Actions were stiff but can develop with maturity.  Nolan ran a 8.01 60yd dash.  Offensively, he has a balanced setup and small load.  Stride is short with a level bat path.  Bat speed is average.  Nolan produced an exit velocity of 79.  

Myles Griffith, OF, Western HS, 2018: The 5-foot-10 180 pound outfielder produced a positional velocity of 78 mph.  Myles throws from a high ¾ arm slot with some carry.  Actions were long but he plays through the ball.  Offensively, he hits from a balanced setup with a leg kick.  Lower half was explosive.  Bat path was level with extension.  He produced an exit velocity of 94.  Myles 60 yard dash was 7.75.

Jake Harris, OF, Pendleton Heights HS, 2017:  The 5-foot-10 160 pound outfielder throws over the top with a long arm action.  Throws had carry at 80mph.  Footwork was fluid and hands were exchange.  Offensively, Jake hits from a balanced crouch.  Stride is short.  Bat speed is average.   Swing is level with extension.  Produced line drives with some pop.  Jake ran a 7.32 60yd dash. 

Michael Knecht, OF, Seymour HS, 2018:  The 5-foot-11 145 outfielder throws from a ¾ arm slot with a long arm action.  Arm strength is average as he produced a positional velocity of 71.  Michael’s 60 was a 7.75.  Offensively, he hits from a tall, balanced setup.  The switch-hitter mirrors his swing from both sides.  Michael has a tendency to pull off.  He will need to have better timing and front side to be effective from each side of the plate. 

Jack Marro, OF, East Central HS, 2017:  The 6-foot 150 pound outfielder ran a 7.19 60.  Jack throws from a high ¾ arm slot with accurate throws.  Footwork was fluid and arm is quick.  Throws topped at 80mph from OF.   Offensively, Jack has a balanced crouch setup.  Load has a leg kick and smooth hand load.    Jack produced line drives with fluid rhythm.  He produced an exit velocity of 78.

Jarrod Smith, OF, Frankfort HS,  2016:  The 6-foot 190 pound outfielder ran a 7.5 60.  Jarrod throws from a high ¾ arm slot with a loose arm.  Throws had carry at 83mph.  Footwork was fluid and exchange was long.  Plays through the ball well.  Offensively, Jarrod hits from a tall setup with a leg kick.  Bat speed is quick with good extension.  Produced line drives with an exit velo of 81.

Bricem Thompson, OF, Castle HS, 2017:    The 6-foot-2 185 pound outfielder has a long, loose arm action.  Defensively, he plays through the ball well with fluid footwork and a clean exchange.  Velocity from the outfield was 82mph.   Offensively, Brice produced an exit velo of 87.  Hands are quick with an above average backside.  Load is balanced and bat path is level with good extension.
