EVANSVILLE---2A No. 8 Evansville Mater Dei battled 4A host Evansville North on Tuesday night and walked away with a solid 10-2 win. The offense started early and continued to produce throughout the game, giving more than enough support for starter Owen Fritch.

After both teams went down quietly in the first inning, Mater Dei opened up the game with a four spot in the second, taking advantage of two errors that extended the inning. Andy DeWeese had an RBI single and Zake Zigenfus pushed the lead to 4-0 with a two run triple to right field.

In the third Seth Kruse led off the inning with a walk and scored when Ben Sellers drove him in with his second double of the game to push the lead to 5-0.

North saw their only offense of the night in the bottom of the third with one out as Curtis doubled to left field to put runners on second and third. Dillon Lagenour followed with a double of his own, bringing in two runs and cutting the deficit to 5-2.

Mater Dei stole back any momentum North had with a four run fourth inning. Will LaRue brought in the first run with a RBI triple and after the next batter was hit by a pitch, Kruse singled bringing in two more runs. Blake Wilderman added one more run in the inning with a two out RBI single, extending the lead to 9-2.

Seven runs was more than enough for Fritch who went six innings to pick up the win allowing two runs on five hits while racking up six strikeouts. After allowing two runs in the third he gave up just two more hits in his next three innings of work.

Mater Dei would add one more run in the sixth as LaRue doubled to start the inning. LaRue would eventually advanced to third and then scored off a Kruse sacrifice fly giving Mater Dei the 10-2 advantage.
