Ft. Wayne Open Showcase: Player Analysis

On Sunday October 12th, PBR Indiana hosted the Ft. Wayne Open Showcase at Carroll High School in Ft. Wayne, IN.  A total of 22 players participated in the event.  Below we analyze each player's performance.

2015's 

Ross Elkins, LHP, Columbia City HS, 20155-foot-11, 165 pounder with a strong athletic body, middle innings guy that fills up the strike zone with a side arm delivery. Tough kid that competes and controls the running game. Fastball is 74-76 mph that runs in hard on right hand hitters, change up is his out pitch.

Cory McCray, OF/MIF, FW Carroll HS, 2015: 5-foot-7, 175 pounds, high energy player, aggressive and plays hard on every play. Short ¾ arm from the outfield with all throws on target with average carry. With the bat he hits from an athletic stance with a smooth short stride. Generates bat speed with a short compact swing. Line drive hitter that will swipe some bags.

John Tuttle, C, FW Northrop HS, 2015: 6-foot, 165 pounds runs a 7.34-60, 1.97-2.05 pop times. Catch and throw guy with a good feel for the game, he will hit for occasional power. He is well built, strong, durable and dependable. Hits from a balanced stance with a short stride and a slight upper cut that will generate pull power. 

2016's 

Gavin Bussard, SS/2B, Tippecanoe Valley HS,2016: 6-foot, 155 pounder hits out of crouched stance with a short stride and a fast bat that stays on a level plain. Contact hitter that doesn’t miss strikes. Defensively he has average hands with good feet and actions. Arm action is short and throws are on target. He is a very athletic player.

Brett Feller,1B, Carroll HS, 2016: 6-foot-, 235 pounds, strong, wide shoulders and athletic. Hit from a balanced stance with a short stride and a buggy whip type swing.  He gets the bat through the zone on a level plain with good extension through contact. Pull hitter that will hit for some power.  

Drew Keil, RHP, Leo HS, 20166-foot-3, 210 pounds, big, strong athletic frame. Aggressive pitcher, fastball was 80-81 mph with slight movement and in the strike zone, he slowed his arm down to throw his curveball  (69-71 mph) with gradual break, change up (70-73) had sink. He has a short ¾ arm slot with a max effort delivery, shows the ball early.

Cameron Kohli, MIF/RHP, FW Carroll HS, 20166-foot-1, 170 pounds, long legs, athletic infielder with a long ¾ arm slot. Average hands, athletic, good actions, plays hard. He hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, average bat speed with extension through contact, line drive hitter with above average baseball skills and knowledge. On the mound he throws across his body. His fastball is 75-78 mph and consistently in the strike zone. Curveball is 62-63 mph with gradual break; change up 65-68 with sink. His delivery is smooth and easy with a long ¾ arm slot. With added strength he will develop into a solid college player.

Ryan McCraken, C/3B, Van Wert HS (OH), 20166-foot-1, 180 pound left hand hitting catcher, hits from a crouched stance, with his hands tight to his body, he has a short stride, hands drop to load. Average bat speed, bats is level through the strike zone. Behind the plate he receives and blocks well, footwork needs to improve for a better pop time (2.65)

Casey McKenzie, OF/3B, FW Carroll HS, 2016: 6-foot-2, 170 pounds with an athletic frame and room to fill out and get stronger. Long, high ¾ arm slot with average carry from the outfield. Good hands, feet and actions. He hits to all fields from a open stance with a short stride and a fast bat. Gap to gap type hitter.

Sam Rhoades, SS/RHP, FW Carroll HS, 20165-foot-10, 150 pounds, lanky, athletic frame. Long ¾ arm slot, average hands and feet. Hits from an athletic stance with a short stride, hips explode at contact creating a fast bat with a level swing, line drive type hitter.

Mike Snyder, INF/OF, FW Northrop HS, 20166-foot-3, 190 pounds. Strong, well built with room to fill out and get stronger. He can play multiple positions. Short ¾ arm, all throws on target with carry. Soft hands, fluid feet and plus actions at all positions. Hits from an athletic stance with a short stride, generates fast bat speed with extension through contact.  Projects to hit for some power and average. 89 mph exit velo.

Tate Stiner, OF, FW Carroll HS, 20166-foot, 178 pound left hand hitting outfielder with an athletic build. Long, high ¾ arm slot with all throws on target average carry (74 mph).  Average hands, fluid feet and a good feel for the game. He hits from a open stance, with a high elbow, slight wrap to load, short stride, average bat speed. Bat stays on a level path to the ball. Line drive hitter that squares up strikes, has power potential (80 mph exit velo). 

Amir Wright, OF, Griffth HS, 20165-foot-10, 160 pounder ran a 7.20-60 on a slow track, 86 mph exit speed. Left hand hitting/ left hand throwing outfielder. Athletic, compact frame. Hits from an open stance, short stride with a slight wrap at load. Average bat speed, long path to the ball. Pull hitter with power potential. Defensively he has average hands, fluid footwork with a good feel for the game.  

2017's

Blake Castetter, C/OF, FW Carroll HS, 20175-foot-8, 150 pounds with a compact frame, works hard behind the plate and displayed knowledge of the game and passion. Hits from an athletic stance with his elbow high and a short stride, he has average bat speed with a long path to the ball. Slap hitter.

Brandon Dunham, OF/RHP, Dekalb HS, 2017
5-foot-11, 165 pound righty, on the mound he attacks hitters with a long, easy ¾ arm action. His fastball is 77-80 mph with slight movement and always in the strike zone, curveball is serviceable, change up (73-75 mph) was above average with sink and run. Defensively he throws (80 mph) from right field and always on target. He hit from an open stance with a short stride and a fast bat on a level plain, gap to gap type hitter.

Noah Leising, SS-2B, Homestead HS, 20176-foot, 140 pounds with a trim, wiry build. Short ¾ arm, throws were on target, average hands, athletic footwork, very smooth middle infielder. Hits from a balanced stance, long stride, fast bat that’s stays in the strike zone, line drive hitter now but with added strength he will hit for power as well as average.

2018's

Ian Clark, C/1B, Norwell HS, 2018: 5-foot-8, 165 pound young ca2015tcher with a huge upside, athletic build with room to grow. He hits out of an open stance with a short stride and a short path to the ball. Behind the plate he receives and blocks well, arm strength needs to improve. Added physical strength and improved foot work will separate him from others in a hurry.

Langston Ginder, MIF/C, FW Carroll HS, 20185-foot-7, 135 pound talented young player with a huge upside. Strong athletic build, middle infielder that hits in a balanced stance with a short stride and explosive hips, the bats stays on plain through contact, line drive hitter that will hit for power has he develops in the weight room. His pop time was 2:15 to 2:25. From the infield he made throws from a ¾ slot with a short easy arm action, he has average hands and good feet around the bag.

Nolan Lebamoff, RHP/OF, FW Carroll HS, 2018:  6-foot-4, 180 pounds, tall/ lanky build with wide shoulders and long loose arms and strong legs. Arm really works on the mound, loose ¾ arm slot, fastball is 75-78 mph with slight, late movement, curveball 63-65 mph with slow gradual break, change up 74-75 mph straight but serviceable. He will improve as his body fills out in the weight room. Offensively he hits from an athletic stance with a short stride, he generates bats speed and will hit for power. From the outfield his throws where on target, he showed athleticism.

Cole Louison, RHP, Norwell HS, 20186-foot-2, 175 pounds with good projectability.  Big hands, long loose arms and strong legs, Young pitcher that will develop more strength as his body matures. Fastball was 71-73 mph, curveball 58-63 mph with little break, change up was his best pitch 66-69 mph with sink and run. His arm works, loose ¾ arm delivery, Athletic with a bright future.

Reece Swoverland, LHP/OF, FW Carroll HS, 2018: 5-foot-9, 140 pounder with high projectability,  Left-handed pitcher with a trim, wiry build and a lot of room to fill out. Strength and conditioning will determine his future. Pitches from a low ¾ arm slot with a short, quick delivery with little effort. He throws three pitches for strikes at anytime in the count. At the plate he hits out of a athletic stance, long stride, average bat speed and a long path to the ball. Line drive type hitter. Defensively he made throws from the outfield that was on target with average carry.

Trent Weiss, SS/2B/3B, Hagerstown HS, 20185-foot-6, 132 pounds, solid compact build. Middle infielder that plays with passion. Short quick arm action on throws across the infield with average carry. Good hands and feet, plays hard. Athletic stance at the plate with a long stride average bat speed. Keeps the bat in the strike zone, contact hitter.
