Hoosier Holiday Showcase: Corner Infield Analysis

On Sunday, December 7th, PBR Indiana hosted the 2nd annual Hoosier Holiday Showcase at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, IN. A total of 45 players from across the state participated in the event, including a total of eight corner infielders.

Top Ranked Corner Infielders

Dillin Diehm, 1B/3B, Garrett HS, 2015: The 6-foot-2, 210 pound corner infielder is committed to Indiana State.  Defensively he showcased solid actions at both 1B and 3B, though he projects more as a 1B at the next level.  He possesses good hands with fluid feet.  Plays through the baseball well and possesses a strong, accurate arm across the field at 84 mph.  Offensively the LHH hits from an open stance with a smooth load back.  Very good approach. Gets good use of the lower half.  Gets to extension with a level path to the ball.  Shows present power to his pull-side and the ability to drive both gaps.  Registered an exit velo of 91 mph and ran a 7.37-60 at the event.  

Trenton Stoner, 3B/MIF, South Bend Clay HS, 2017: 6-foot, 180 pounder possesses a strong athletic frame with wide shoulders.  Defensively, showcased athletic actions with soft hands and fluid feet.  Exchange is quick and clean.  Plays through the baseball with athleticism. Across the diamond was 76 mph with accuracy. Offensively, hits from an athletic, open stance.  High back elbow.  Short stride.  Quick bat with some barrel whip.  Level path to the ball with pull-side power.  Registered an exit velo of 85 mph.  

Wyatt Schwing, 3B, South Dearborn HS, 2016: A 6-foot, 205 pound 3b possesses a strong, muscular frame.  Possesses above average hands at 3B with fluid footwork.  Exchange is clean and plays through the baseball well.  Strong arm across the diamond with some carry at 79 mph. Offensively, starts in a balanced setup with a long stride.  Smooth load back with average use of the lower half. Showcased a quick bat with pull-side power.  Consistently barrels up the baseball.  Registered an exit velo of 86 mph.  

Best of the Rest (Listed Alphabetically)

Conner Dove, 1B, Eastside HS, 2017: 6-foot-1, 190 pound Junior showcased average hands and fluid feet at 1B.  Across the diamond was 79 mph with accuracy.  At the plate starts slightly open.  Hands have the tendency to drop during the load.  Stride is short.  Average bat speed with a short, level path to the ball.  Line dive type hitter.  Registered an exit velo of 82 mph.  

Noah Freimuth, 1B, Bishop Dwenger HS, 2016: A 6-foot-2, 198 pound Junior 1B showcased average hands defensively with good footwork around the bag.  Exchange is clean and plays through the baseball.  Across the diamond was 80 mph.  At the plate uses an aggressive approach with raw explosiveness and lots of movement. Starts balanced and uses a big leg kick.  Has quick hands with pull-side power.  Registered an exit velo of 86 mph.   

Andrew Robinson, 1B, Orleans HS, 2015: 6-foot-2, 225 pound senior was 69 mph across the diamond from a short arm action and ¾ slot.  Ran a 7.93-60.  At the plate hits from a slight crouch position with wide feet.  Small load back with a short stride.  Average bat speed with a long path to the ball.  Registered an exit velo of 83 mph.  Pull-side hitter.  

Bailey Waugh, 3B, Homestead HS, 2016: 6-foot, 185 pound Junior 3B ran a 7.57-60.  In the field showcased a clean exchange with some arm strength across the diamond at 82 mph.  Average hands and feet.  At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short stride.  Hands drop during the load.  Slap type hitter.  Possesses stiffness throughout the swing.  Registered an exit velo of 76 mph. 

Tyler Wenig, 3B, Trinity Lutheran HS, 2015: 5-foot-7, 275 pound senior was 64 across the diamond and ran a 9.69-60.  Tall, narrow setup at the plate.  Short path to the baseball.  Registered an exit velo of 70 mph.
