Hoosier Holiday Showcase: Middle Infield Analysis

On Sunday, December 7th, PBR Indiana hosted the 2nd annual Hoosier Holiday Showcase at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, IN. A total of 45 players from across the state participated in the event, including a total of nine middle infielders.

Top MIF (Listed Alphabetically)

Jordan Cozart, SS, Evansville Central HS, 2016: 5-foot-10, 150 pound Junior possesses a small, athletic frame with room to grow.  The SS showcased athletic actions defensively with soft hands and fluid feet.  Plays through the baseball well with a clean exchange.  Across the diamond was 81 mph with accuracy.  Ran a 7.51-60.  At the plate starts tall and open.  Loads back with a slight arm bar.  Long stride.  Good balance throughout.  Level path to the baseball producing hard hit line drives.  Registered an exit velo of 83 mph.  

Luke Florek, SS, Western HS, 2017: The 6-foot, 165 pound sophomore is a solid HS short stop with a good feel for the position.  Packs during the exchange with a long arm action across the diamond at 83 mph.  At the plate the RHH sarts balanced with a smooth load.  Short stride with average use of the lower half.  Good balance throughout.  Short, level path to the baseball.  Gets to extension producing hard hit line drives.  Registered an exit velo of 83 mph.  

Tanner Lilly, SS/2B, Mt. Vernon HS, 2017: 5-foot-10, 180 pound sophomore possesses fluid feet up the middle with good hands.  Exchange is clean and plays through the baseball with some athleticism.  Good body control and overall feel for the position.  Across the diamond was 76 mph with accuracy.  Has the ability to throw from multiple arm angles.  Ran a 7.36-60.  At the plate hits from a crouch setup with.  Minimal stride.  Hands tend to drop during the load.  Average bat speed with a short path to the ball.  Contact type hitter.  Registered an exit velo of 77 mph.   

Joey Martoccio, 2B/SS, Griffith HS, 2017: 6-foot-2, 165 pound sophomore possesses an athletic frame and showcased above average hands  and feet in the field.  Exchange is clean.  Accurate arm across the diamond at 79 mph.  Ran a 7.44-60.  At the plate starts in an athletic setup with a smooth load.  Stride is short with average use of the lower half.  Bat tends to drag through the zone.  Registered an exit velo of 74 mph.  

Ian McCutcheon, SS/2B, Huntington North HS, 2018: 5-foot-10, 145 pound freshman plays through the baseball well with average feet and hands.  Across the diamond was 78 mph from a long arm action and ¾ slot.  Ran a 7.44-60.  At the plate hits from an athletic setup.  Slight arm bar during the load.  Possesses good bat speed for a 2018.  Registered an exit velo of 80 mph.  Level path to the baseball producing hard hit line drives. 

Sam Paddock, 2B/MIF, Lawrence North HS, 2017: 6-foot, 170 pound sophomore showcased average hands in the field with a clean exchange.  Lacks elite foot speed.  Ran a 7.51-60. Long arm action across the field at 75 mph with some accuracy.  At the plate hits from a balanced setup.  Stride is short with average use of the lower half.  Minimal load.  Level path to the baseball.  Top hand wrap.  Registered an exit velo of 73 mph.   

Sean Smith, 2B/MIF, Peru HS, 2017: 6-foot, 160 pound sophomore possesses average hands in the field.  Exchange is clean.  Lacks elite foot speed.  Ran a 7.5-60.  Switch hitter at the plate.  From the right side starts open and uses a leg kick.  Loads back.  Tendency to over rotate.  Possesses good hand speed with some pull-side power.  Barrels up the baseball.  Registered an exit velo of 81 mph.  From the left-side starts open and uses a small leg kick.  Minimal load.  Not as much power or bat speed than from the right side of the plate.  

Nicholas Sprinkle, SS/2B, Rushville HS, 2017: 5-foot-9, 150 pound sophomore possesses average hands and fluid feet.  Exchange is clean.  Across the diamond was 75 mph from a short arm action.  Ran a 7.4-60.  At the plate starts from a balanced setup.  Drops hands during the load.  Stride is short.  Lacks use of the lower half.  Good balance throughout.  Average bat speed with a long, level path to the ball.  Tendency to hit off front side.  Registered an exit velo of 75 mph.   

Robbie Strader, 2B/SS, Roncalli HS, 2016: 6-foot, 170 pounder plays through the baseball well with average hands and fluid feet.  Lacks elite foot speed, but has the ability to track down balls in the hole.  Exchange is clean.  Accurate arm with carry across the diamond at 82 mph.  Offensively, starts open with a smooth load.  Uses a toe tap, stride is short.  Possesses quick hands at the plate and gets to extension.  Showcased pull-side power.  Barrels up the ball, consistent hard contact.  Registered and exit velo of 86 mph.
