Hoosier Holiday Showcase: Outfielders Analysis

On Sunday, December 7th, PBR Indiana hosted the 2nd annual Hoosier Holiday Showcase at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, IN. A total of 45 players from across the state participated in the event, including a total of eight outfielders.

Top Outfielders (Listed Alphabetically)

Bailey Buescher, OF, Franklin Central HS, 2016: 5-foot-10, 150 pounder was 80 mph from the OF and ran a 7.34-60.  Displayed average hands with fluid footwork.  Exchange is clean.  At the plate starts open, using a short stride.  Good balance throughout.  Showcased average bat speed with a short, level path to the ball.  Fluid rhythm throughout.  Needs to add strength.  Registered an exit velo of 81 mph.  

Jacob Dickson, OF, Portage HS, 2016: 6-foot-3, 215 pounder possesses a strong, athletic frame with wide shoulders.  Uses a long arm action and ¾ slot in the field.  From the OF was 78 mph with some accuracy.  Possesses average hands  and feet.  Ran a 7.44-60.  At the plate starts in an athletic setup with a smooth load back.  Short stride with an explosive lower half.  Showcased quick bat speed with a long, level path to the ball.  Pull-side hitter with present power.   Top hand wrap.  Registered an event high exit velo at 98 mph.  

Luke Florek, OF, Western HS, 2017: 6-foot, 165 pounder possesses an athletic frame.  Ran a 7.20-60. Long, loose arm from the outfield at 84 mph with carry.  Moves well with good foot speed.  At the plate the RHH sarts balanced with a smooth load.  Short stride with average use of the lower half.  Good balance throughout.  Short, level path to the baseball.  Gets to extension producing hard hit line drives.  Registered an exit velo of 83 mph.  

Cole Jacobs, OF, Hamilton Southeastern HS, 2016: 5-foot-9, 155 pounder showcased fluid feet in the field with average hands.  The left-hander possesses a long, loose arm action at 82 mph.  Exchange is clean and plays through the baseball.  The RHH starts in an athletic setup with a smooth load back.  Stride is short with a slight leg kick.  Possesses average bat speed with a level path to the baseball.  Hits off front side.  Ability to take the ball to the opposite field.  Registered an exit velo of 82 mph.   

Corbin Maddox, OF, Daleville HS, 2017: 5-foot-10, 185 pounder ran 6.94-60.  Defensively, showcased average hands with quick feet.  From a long arm action was 76 mph from the field.  At the plate starts in an athletic setup and loads back.  Stride is short.  Showcased good bat speed, registering an exit velo of 83 mph.  Long path the baseball.  Possesses good strength for a 2017.  

Alex McCutcheon, OF, Huntington North HS, 2016: 6-foot-1, 180 pounder possesses an athletic frame.  Ran a 7.36-60.  From the outfield the left-hander showcased a strong arm at 86 mph.  Short, quick steps to the baseball.  Exchange is long.  Offensively, the LHH hits from a slight crouch position using a smooth load back.  Stride is short from a small toe-tap.  Level path to the ball, gets to extension.  Line drive hitter, with some pull-side power.  Registered an exit velo of 83 mph.  

Braden Odom, OF, Anderson HS, 2017: 5-foot-11, 165 pounder was 79 mph from the OF using a long arm action and ¾ slot.  Defensively shows average hands and feet.  Needs to quicken up the exchange.  At the plate the LHH starts balanced.  Loads back and uses a leg kick.  Average use of the lower half.  Average bat speed with a level path to the baseball.  Barreled up the baseball consistently.  Ran a 7.50-60 and registered an exit velo of 75 mph.  Good upside for a 2017.   

Mitchell Sparks,  OF, Carmel HS, 2015: 6-foot-3, 172 pounder showcased a long arm action at 80 mph from the field.  Possesses average hands with fluid feet and a clean exchange.  Ran a 7.33-60.  Offensively, the LHH hits from an open stance with a smooth load.  Stride is short with good use of the lower half.  Hips have a tendency to open up early.   Possesses above average bat speed with a level path to the baseball.  Barreled up the baseball.  Fluid rhythm throughout the swing.  Registered an exit velo of 85 mph.
