The Class 4A No. 23 ranked Carmel Greyhounds opened their season last night at Hamilton Heights High School.  They Greyhounds were quick to get on the board in top of the first after DH Tyler Blackington’s RBI double gave Carmel the early 1-0 edge.

The Carmel lead was quick to disappear in the bottom half of the first as the Hamilton Heights Huskies pushed across six runs of their own.  Seniors Ian Nicholson and Jacob Hammel each had RBI singles while Junior John Fisher doubled in a run.

Carmel would score one in third and two more in the fifth to cut lead to 6-4 which included freshman Jack Van Remortel’s 2 RBI double in the fifth.  The Greyhounds were able to put one more across in the seventh on an RBI single by Tyler Keith, but came up short losing to the Huskies 6-5.

Senior southpaw Nathan Watson earned the win for the Huskies.  He allowed four runs in 4 2/3 innings striking out seven Greyhound hitters while walking two and allowing six hits.  Senior Jacob Hammel, a Grace commit, finished things off for the Huskies on the mound going 2 1/3 innings, striking out three.
