NEW ALBANY– Thursday night saw a matchup of two ranked rivals with No. 10 New Albany hosting No. 17 Jeffersonville. The rivalry needed more than just the regular seven innings to find a winner, going 11 innings.

New Albany pushed runs across first with a two run second inning.  A.J. Nixon's single to right got by the right fielder allowing Brady Parr to score the first run of the inning. Nixon would eventually advance to third later in the inning and score the second run on a passed ball.

Jeffersonville answered back with a five run inning taking advantage of two, two out New Albany errors. With two on, Ian Ellis came to the plate and gave Jeffersonville a lead with a three run blast over the left field Wall. New Albany pitcher Brandon Goller was solid on the mound allowing six runs, but only one earned in seven innings of work.

New Albany would get one back with a two RBI singled from Parr that scored Matt Sogger, who doubled to lead off the inning.

Chandler Dale had an answer for Jeffersonville with a two out RBI single of his own in the fourth to push the lead back to three runs, at 6-3

New Albany cut the deficit again in the bottom of the fourth thanks to another Joey Collins double bringing in two runs and cutting Jeff’s lead to 6-5.

The game would stay at 6-5 until the seventh. New Albany came up in the bottom half still trailing by one. Joey Collins singled to start the inning. Parr roped an RBI triple down the right field line scoring Collins With no outs Jeffersonville intentionally walked the next two batters and left it up to pitcher Joe Burke to get out of the jam. Burke settled down and struck out the next two batters he faced and got a ground ball up the middle for the third out to strand the winning run and sending the game into extra innings.

Extra innings were all about two solid pitching performances. Burke, who came on in the fifth inning, only allowed one hit in the four extra frames and sat down nine in a row. New Albany sent out Xavier commit Brandon Johnson, to relieve Goller. Johnson only allowed one base runner to reach and struck out seven in his four innings pitched.

In the bottom of the 11th New Albany leadoff hitter, Jack Shine, reached base on a throwing error. Burke struck out the next two batters, however Shine stole second base on the second strikeout. Nixon was intentionally walked for the second time that night bringing up Noah Smith who turned on a ball hitting a hard grounder to third base, the ball caromed off the third baseman’s glove into left bringing in Shine to give New Albany the 7-6 win
