No. 10 Silver Creek Takes Down Mid Southern Rival Charlestown

CHARLESTOWN – Mid Southern rivals the Charlestown Pirates and No. 10 the Silver Creek Dragons faced off on Tuesday night with Silver Creek getting a big road victory. Junior Cameron Cook got the ball for Silver Creek and was fairly dominant during his five innings sitting 83-85, up to 86.

Silver Creek wasted no time scoring jumping on the board in the top of the first. With runners on first and second Shae Durham would hit a ball hard down the third base line for a RBI double.

Silver Creek was able to push one run across in each of the next three innings. In the second an over throw on a sacrifice bunt allowed Logan Murphy to scored, Murphy had doubled to start the inning. Cameron Cook helped his own cause in the third with a lead off solo homerun deep over the scoreboard in left center field. Then in the fourth Durham collected his second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly giving Silver Creek a 4-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth Cook allowed his lone run of the game. Charlestown’s Tanner Wesp drove a curveball over the left field wall for a solo homerun. Wesp had both of the hits Cook allowed, also singling in the first inning.

In the top of the fifth Silver Creek responded to Charlestown’s run with five of their own to put the game out of reach. The Dragons loaded the bases thanks to a pair of errors and a hit batter. Cody Razer drew a bases loaded walk to bring in the first run of the inning and Brahm Whittinghill cleared the bases with a three run triple to right field. Brayden Ware brought in Whittinghill with a sac fly to give Silver Creek a 9-1 lead after 5.

Cook came out for one more inning setting down the Pirates 1-2-3 for the third time in the game. He finished the day with a line of five innings pitcher, one run, two hits, one walks, and striking out four.
