Q&A with 2015 Franklin Commit Tanner Nicholson

Tanner NicholsonGreentcastle senior middle-infielder Tanner Nicholson recently committed to Franklin College.  At the 2014 Top Prospect Games at I.U. Nicholson showcased quick feet with the ability to track down balls in the hole.  Across the diamond he was 79 mph.  He ran a 4.44 down the line and registered an exit velo of 82 mph. 

PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose Franklin? 

Nicholson: I chose Franklin because it's a small campus that also offers small class sizes for better education. The coaching staff at Franklin has been very welcoming and kind throughout the recruitment process.  

PBR: Where did Franklin first see you compete? 

Nicholson: Coach Bellak had seen me throughout the summer during travel tournaments.  

PBR: When did you take your first visit to Franklin? 

Nicholson: I took my first visit the fall of 2014. 

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play when you first arrive on campus? 

Nicholson: My role will be to continue to work hard in the classroom and prepare for the upcoming season. 

PBR: What other schools were you considering? 

Nicholson: Other schools I was considering were Olney College, Wabash College, and Indiana Tech. 

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer, and how has playing with them helped you develop as a baseball player? 

Nicholson: The past two years I played for the Indiana Outlaws. Playing for the Outlaws has allowed me to improve my game by playing high level competition for a great organization. Playing for Mike Farrell the last two years has helped me grow as a player and a person.  

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player? 

Nicholson: Mike Farrell has been the biggest impact on me as a baseball player. Mike's knowledge, passion, and belief in me has been a huge impact. 

PBR: What are you goals both personally and as team this coming spring at Greencastle? 

Nicholson: My personal goals for this upcoming high school season are to break the single season stealing record, continuing to maintain a high batting average, and continuing to be a leader on and off the field.  

PBR: What were your stats last spring at Greencastle? 

Nicholson: Last season stats: .400 BA, 18 SB, 2 3B, 7 2B, 1 HR, 2014 All-Conference SS, All-Putnam County Team.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you've faced in Indiana? 

Nicholson: Ref. Toughest pitcher I faced in Indiana: I would say that all pitchers were top quality. 

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date? 

Nicholson: My most memorable moment as a baseball player would have to be hitting my first home run. Which was actually this past high school season.
