Q&A with Benedictine University Commit; Jordan Kyriakopoulos

By Phil Wade

Indiana Executive Director

Jordan KyriakopoulosSheridan High School senior middle-infielder Jordan Kyriakopoulos has committed to Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.  Below he discusses his choice to attend Benidictine.

PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose Benedictine?

Kyriakopoulos: I chose Benedictine University because of the facilities and the chance to play for a legendary coach.  The athletic facilities are top notch and they are opening a brand new state of the art business school the fall of 2015. I also have a chance to start as a Freshman. One thing I have enjoyed this fall is playing football for Bud Wright, who has won 9 state titles and is #10 for most career HS Football wins in the country.  I feel I can have the same experience with Coach Ostrowski. He is #5 for career wins in the NCAA for active coaches.

PBR: Where did Benedictine first see you compete?

Kyriakopoulos: Coach Z heard about me from other scouts and saw me on video.

PBR: When did you take your first official visit?

Kyriakopoulos: I had my official visit on September 6th 2014.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play once you arrive on campus?

Kyriakopoulos: The middle infield will be up for grabs and the coaches feel I can start as a freshman and contribute right away.

PBR: Were there any other schools you were considering?

Kyriakopoulos: I was considering St. Katherine College in San Diego, CA; Murray State, Taylor University and Morehead State

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Kyriakopoulos: My Dad and Coach Bennett.

PBR: With this being your final year as a HS player, what are your goals both personally and as a team?

Kyriakopoulos: Personally I want to repeat what I did last spring and to help the Blackhawks win.  I believe we can make it to Regionals.  Keep an eye out for us because we are going to raise some eyebrows this year!

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and how has playing with them impacted your baseball career?

Kyriakopoulos: I actually played for a few teams the last few years, the Mustangs, Pony Express and Westfield Indians. I improved as a player from all of them. I was able to get exposure from college scouts, faced very good pitching and learned new off season routines, as well as play several positions which helped me learn the game better.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you've faced in Indiana?

Kyriakopoulos: I would have to say Nolan Watson.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Kyriakopoulos: I would have to say the home game vs Guerin this past spring.  We havnen't beat them in four years.  We were in extra innings and I hit a single to center-field and while on I first base I told coach Westerfield that if Jake hits a ball to the outfield I was scoring to end the game.  Jake hit one to the gap and I scored from first base. Coach Britt and the team were very excited about that win.
