Top Prospect Games: Team Black Player Analysis



On June 23-24, we hosted the third annual Top Prospect Games at Grand Park in Westfield, IN.  The event consisted of 117 players, primarily within the 2016 and 2017 classes, which made up six teams (Red, White, Gold, Purple, Gray and Black).

Below we take a look at the players from Team Black.

In Alphabetical Order

Tyler Blackington, 1B/RHP, Carmel, 2016
:  The 6-foot-3 215 pound first basemen ran a 7.72 60 yard dash.  Exit velocity was 94mph.  Bat speed is fast and gets good extension from a long, level swing path.  Has pop at the plate. Hits from a balanced setup, loads back.  Stride is short with good use of his lower half.  Good balance.   On the mound, fastball sat 77-80.  11/5 Breaking ball was 70-71 with gradual break and thrown for strikes.  Pitches from a high 3/4 slot, long arm action. Regular effort with some rhythm in the delivery.  Good line to the plate, lands open. At 1B, hands possesses sure hands with a clean exchange.  Velocity across infield was 76mph.

Jackson Bland, RHP, Lebanon,  2016:  The 6-foot-1 225 pound pitcher sat 80-82 with the fastball. Fastball was straight.   Arm slot is high ¾ with above average arm speed.   Balance is good throughout delivery. 12/6 Breaking ball was 66-67 with early, gradual break.  Filled up strike zone.  Pitches from a 3/4 slot with some arm speed.  Long, loose arm action.  Regular effort with some rhythm in the delivery.  Good line to the plate. 

Cameron Boyd, RHP, Fishers, 2016:  The 6-foot-3 200 pound pitcher sat 82-86 with the fastball. Fastball was heavy.  Breaking ball was 66-67mph with gradual break and thrown for strikes from an 11/5 shape.  Arm action is long and quick from a 3/4 slot. Tall to all type delivery, smooth rhythm with an athletic finish. Lands square.

Tyler Burthay, C/OF, Western, 2017:  The 6-foot 175 pound catcher showcased plus actions behind the plate.  Exchange and footwork are quick.   Pop times ranged between 1.86-2.00.  Velocity from the crouch was 77mph.  Offensively, he hits from a balanced setup.  Bat speed is above average.  Bat path is level.  Exit velocity was 83mph.

Alec Bryan, OF, Franklin Central, 2016:  The 5-foot-10 160 pound outfielder ran a 6.64 60 yard dash.   From the outfield, he topped at 83 mph on his throws in.  Hands are above average and footwork is fluid.    Offensively, he hits from a balanced setup with a back load.  He has a small leg kick and maintains good rhythm.  Line drive approach.  Exit velocity was 85mph.

Will Conway, LHP, Cathedral, 2016:  The 6-foot-3 190 pound pitcher sat 80-83 with the fastball.  Fastball has slight run. Breaking ball was 70-72 with 2/8 shape and early break.  Delivery has a ¾ arm slot and above average arm speed.  Balance is good throughout delivery.  Keeps good rhythm and direction.  Good pitchability.

Aaron Ernst, OF/RHP, Carmel, 2017:  The 6-foot-2 165 pound outfielder ran a 7.2 60 yard dash.  Offensively, he has a short stride and back load.  Bat path is level and maintains good balance.  Exit velocity was 83mph.  Defensively, he has good footwork and a fluid exchange.  Arm action is ¾ with above average strength at 85 mph.  On the mound pitches from a 3/4 slot with average arm speed.  Long arm action.  Tall to fall delivery with some rhythm.  Stays in line, lands square.  Fastball was 83-85 and kept down in the zone.  Breaking ball showed a sweeping action with occasional bite at 72-74.  Changeup has sink and thrown for a stirke at 76-77

Jason Hall-Manley, OF, New Palestine, 2016:  The 6-foot 195 pound outfielder ran a 7.00 60 yard dash.  Offensively, he has a balanced setup and small leg kick.  Bat speed is fast.  Jason has some pop.  Exit velocity was 95mph.  Defensively, he has fluid footwork and a long exchange.  Arm action is over top with above average arm speed.  Throws from outfield were 82mph.  

Zach Huffins, INF, West Lafayette, 2017:  The 6-foot-2 175 pound infielder ran a 6.66 60 yard dash.  Arm action is average with a ¾ arm slot.  Footwork is fluid and exchange is clean.   Throws across infield topped at 74.  Offensively, he produced an exit velocity of 82.  He has a tall setup with small leg kick.  Slight armbar then a level swing.  Line drive approach. 

Jarrett Lopez, C/INF/ Lake Central, 2017:  The 5-foot-11 150 pound catcher ran a 7.38 60 yard dash.  Jarrett registered pop times between 2.08-2.19.  Footwork is quick and arm strength is average.  Velocity from the crouch was 72mph.  Offensively, he has a short stride and good approach.  Bat speed is average.  Exit velocity was 79mph.  

Cameron Martin, OF, Brownsburg, 2017:  The 6-foot 150 pound outfielder ran a 6.61 60 yard dash.  Offensively, he has a tall setup and hand drop in his load. Stride is short, good balance.  Average bat speed with an uphill swing plane.  Line drive type hitter. Defensively, he has quick footwork and clean exchange.  Arm action is over the top and throws were accurate.  Throws were 83 from the outfield.

Drew Mathies, INF, Shelbyville, 2017:  The 5-foot-11 160 pound infielder ran a 6.91 60 yard dash.  Drew showcased above average hands and clean exchange.  Footwork was heavy.  Throws had carry and topped at 82mph.  Exit velocity was 79mph.  He has a balanced setup and short stride.  Bat path is level with average bat speed.  

Christian McGill, OF, Hamilton Heights 2016:  The 5-foot-10 175 pound outfielder ran a 6.75 60 yard dash.  Offensively, he has a balanced setup and short stride.  Bat speed is above average and bat path is level.  He produced an exit velocity of 79mph.  Throws topped at 83 from the outfield.  Actions were solid from the outfield.

Matt Olovich, SS, Guerin Catholic, 2017:  The 5-foot-10 170 pound infielder ran a 7.19 60 yard dash.  Defensively, he has sure with quick footwork.  Exchange can be long.  Throws had carry and topped at 83.  He was also 91 from the outfield.  Exit velocity was 79mph.  He has a back load with a uphill bat path.  Produced line drives throughout batting practice.  On the moundd pitches from a 3/4 slot with average arm speed.  Short arm action. Fastball showed some sink at 78-80.  Breaking ball had a 10/4 shape with early action at 62-65.  Changeup was 68-70.  

Jack Parisi, 3B/RHP, Homestead, 2017:  The 6-foot 195 pound infielder ran a 7.83 60 yard dash.  Jack has a short arm action and average arm strength.  Hands can improve, but has a clean exchange.  Offensively, he has a balanced setup with a small leg kick.  Bat path is level.  Exit velocity was 85mph.  On the mound pitches from a 3/4 slot with average arm speed.  Long arm action.  Fastball was erratic at 79-82.  Breaking ball has an 11/5 shape, sweeper, at 65-68.  Changeup sat 73-74 with occasional fade. Tendency to fall off towards 1B side.  

Tyler Rapp, C/OF, Rockville, 2016:  The 5-foot-11 180 pound catcher ran a 7.09 60 yard dash.  Offensively, he has a balanced setup with short, level bat path. Stride is short, shows good balance.  Line drive type hitter.  Exit velocity was 82mph.  Defensively, footwork is heavy.  Exchange is fluid and throws were accurate.  Pop times were between 2.22-2.33.

Wyatt Schwing, C, South Deaborn, 2016:  The 6-foot-1 215 pound catcher ran a 7.89 60 yard dash.  Wyatt produced an exit velocity of 85mph.  Hits from a balanced setup, loads back.  Stride is short.  Good use of his lower half and shows good balance. Bat path is level and speed is above average. Overall good approach at the plate.  Produced line drives during batting practice.  Defensively, Wyatt has a quick exchange and short arm action.  Tendency to pop out too far left.  Pop times were 1.99-2.10  Velocity from behind the plate was 77mph.   Solid receiver and blocker. 

Paul Siciliano, 3B/1B, West Lafayette, 2016:  The 6-foot-2 165 pound corner infielder ran a 7.4 60 yard dash.   Defensively, Paul has a short arm action and throws have some carry at 77.  Hands are average and footwork is fluid.  Plays through the ball well.  Offensively, hits from a wide stance and loads bakc. Short stride and good rhythm.  Bat path is level with extension.  Line drive hitter.  Exit velocity was 81mph.  

Riley Tirotta, SS, Mishawaka Marian, 2017:  The 6-foot-3 185 pound infielder ran a 6.86 60 yard dash.  Defensively, he has a loose arm with fluid footwork.  Hands are solid, long/clean exchange.  Infield velocity was 84 with carry.  At the plate, he has a tall setup and short stride.  Bat path is short and level with average bat speed.  Overall good approach at the plate with fluid rhythm.  Line drive hitter. Exit velocity was 82mph.   

Seamus Welsh, LHP, Valparaiso, 2017 :  The 5-foot-11 185 pound left-handed pitcher sat 77-79 with the fastball, kept it down in the zone for a strike.  Breaking ball was 62-65 with gradual break from a 10/4 shape.  Change-up was 79-70 with arm side sink.  Delivery has some effort with good balance.  Arm action is long and at a ¾ arm slot. Shows some rhythm in the delivery with uphill shoulders.  Tendency to fall off towards 3B side.
