Top Prospect Games: Team Purple Player Analysis



On June 23-24, we hosted the third annual Top Prospect Games at Grand Park in Westfield, IN.  The event consisted of 117 players, primarily within the 2016 and 2017 classes, which made up six teams (Red, White, Gold, Purple, Gray and Black).

Below we take a look at the players from Team Purple.

ALPHABETICAL ORDER

Hunter Cornelius, INF/OF, White River Valley, 2016:  The 5-foot-7 135 pound utility player ran a 6.99 60 yard dash.  Defensively, Hunter has a quick exchange in the infield with fluid footwork.  Showcased sure hands with an accurate arm.Throws across the infield topped at 81mph, 84 from outfield.  Offensively, he hits from a balanced setup with a leg kick.  Load is smooth, balance is good.  Level plane to the baseball. Exit velocity was 78mph.

Tanner Craig, 3B/C, Austin, 2017:  The 6-foot 198 pound corner infielder ran a 7.45 60 yard dash.  Tanner produced a 87 mph exit velocity.  He hits from an open setup with fast hands and a level swing that regularly gets to extension. Loads back with an arm bar. Displayed good use of the lower half with good balance.  Present pull-side power.  At 3B, hands are above average and footwork is fluid.  Throws had carry at 78 mph.  Behind the plate, he has good feet and decent arm speed.  Tendency to pop out to the left leaving the crouch.  Pop times were 2.22-2.3  Catcher velocity was 74.

Isaiah Davis, INF/RHP, Ben Davis, 2017:  The 6-foot 155 pound infielder displayed a quick exchange and release.  Bat speed was above average and throws were accurate.  Isaiah’s defense showcases his athleticism.  Footwork is quick.  Release is quick.  Solid in game on defense.  Offensively, his exit velocity was 80mph.    Load is back and balance is good.  Bat speed is avaerage.  Isaiah hit an exit velocity of 80mph. On the mound pitches from a high 3/4 slot with average arm speed.  Fastball was kept down with slight sink at 80-81.  11/5 breaking ball with early action sat 61-63.  Displayed a tall to fall type delivery with some rhythm.  Good line to the plate.  

Joey Deeter, 3B/RHP, Homestead, 2016:  The 6-foot-1 180 pound infielder produced an exit velocity of 88mph.  Joey has an open setup with a long stride.  Loads back.  Bat speed is fast and swing is level. Pull-side hitter with good rhythm.  Defensively, Joey’s throws were accurate with carry.  Positional velocity was 81mph.  Hands are above average and footwork was flat. Exchange is clean.  

Joseph Drury, INF, Center Grove, 2016:  The 5-foot-11 175 pound MIF ran a 7.3 60 yard dash.  Defensively, Joey made every play look easy.  Soft hands, quick exchange,  and a loose arm.  Good range left to right.  Infield velocity was 77mph.  Offensively, Joey has a slightly open setup.  Joey has above average bat speed and a level bat path.  His exit velocity was 85mph.  On the mound sat 79-82 with his fastball.  Breaking ball showed late action from an 11/5 shape at 68-69.  Changeup was thrown with near FB arm speed at 72-73 with occasional sink action.  Pitches from a short 3/4 arm action with good arm speed.  Easy effort in the delivery.  

Alexander Flock, INF, North Harrison, 2016:  The 6-foot-2 170 pound infielder ran a 6.7 60 yard dash.  Defensively, Alexander has above average hands and fluid footwork.  Exchange was long, while throws had some accuracy.   Infield velocity was 74mph.   Offensively, he hits from a balanced setup and short stride.  Balance is good and bat path is level.  Exit velocity was 86mph. 

Noah Freimuth, RHP, Bishop Dwenger, 2016:  The 6-foot-3 205 pound pitcher sat 82-84 with his fastball, Fastball was thrown with some cut for strikes.  Breaking ball was thrown at 67-68 with gradual break.  Delivery has some effort but good rhythm.  Arm speed is quick from a short 3/4 arm action.  Shoulders tend to fly open.  Lands open.  Threw a lot of strikes. 

Mac Hippenhammer, INF, Fort Wayne Snider, 2017:  The 6-foot 155 pound athletic infielder ran a 6.55 60 yard dash.  Very quick feet.  Solid defensive actions.  Hands are soft and footwork is quick.   Offensively, he produced an exit velocity of 87.  Mac has an open stance with a short stride.  Barrel tends to drag.  Line drive approach, most to opposite field.   Switch hitter at the plate.

Tyler Hofmann, OF/INF/RHP, Lawrence North, 2016:  The 6-foot-3 220 pound physical outfielder ran a 7.00 60 yard dash.  Exit velocity was 89mph.  Offensively, Tyler has a balanced setup and short stride. Load is smooth, Bat speed is fast. Showed the ability to get to extension, producing gap power.  Rhythm is a little stiff  Defensively, Tyler has above average hands and fluid footwork in both the INF and OF. Throws were accurate with carry.  Velocity from the outfield was 87.  On the mound, his fastball sat 85-87.  Breaking ball was 68-71 with gradual break.  Change-up was erratic at 65-68.  Pitches from a 3/4 slot with a short, quick arm action.  Shows some rhythm in the delivery with level shoulders.  Good line to the plate, tendency to land open.  Finishes athletic.  

Tyler Holloway, C/3B, Bloomington South, 2016:  The 6-foot 185 pound catcher ran a 7.55 60 yard dash.  Tyler produced an 85 mph exit velocity.  He hits from a balanced setup and long stride.  Bat speed is above average and path is level with extension.  Defensively,  Tyler produced pop times of 2.14-2.18 and a velocity of 70mph from the crouch.  He has average arm speed and long transfer.   Tyler works in rhythm on his throws.

Lukas Jaksich, LHP/OF, Andrean, 2016:  The 6-foot-1 160 pound southpaw pitches from a 3/4 slot with a long, loose arm action.  Good balacne and rhythm in the delivery.  Good line to the plate.  Fastball was 80-82 with down action.  He filled up the strike zone.  Breaking ball was 68-69 with late break and kept in the zone.  Change-up was 71-74 with fade. Maintains good balance and easy effort. 

Evan Hylek, C, Andrean, 2017:  The 5-foot9 155 pound catcher ran a 6.98 60 yard dash.  Offensively, Evan hits from a balanced setup.  Loads back, using a short stride.  Overall good approach at the plate. Level path to teh baseball, regularly got to extension.  Line drive hitter, registered an exit velocity of 77mph.  From the crouch, Evan’s highest velocity was 72mph.  Pop times were between 2.10-2.19.  Good arm slot and quick feet.  Solid defender and receiver.  Sticks pitches well.  

Corbin Maddox, OF, Daleville, 2017:  The 5-foot-10 185 pound outfielder ran a 6.8 60 yard dash.  Corbin hits from a balanced setup and short stride.  He has fast bat speed and a level bat path.  Produced lined drives throughout batting practice.  Exit velocity was 90 mph.  Defensively, Corbin has a long arm action and fluid footwork.  Plays through the ball well.  Outfield velocity was 78 mph.

Braden Odom OF/LHP, Anderson, 2017:  The 5-foot-11 170 pound outfielder ran a 6.84 60 yard dash.  Braden hits from a balanced setup with a back load.  Stride is long, bat path is level.  His exit velocity was 78mph.  Defensively, arm action is long.   Footwork was flat, but exchange was fluid.  On the mound, Braden’s FB was 75-77 and thrown for strikes.  CB sat 62-64 with gradual break.  Delivery had some effort and good balance. Pitches from a 3/4 slot, long arm action.  Level shoulders, stays in line.  Lands square.

Will Smithey, C/3B, Center Grove, 2016:  The 6-foot 175 pound catcher ran a 6.9 60 yard dash.  Will showcased some pop with a 92 exit velocity and solid round of batting practice.  He hits from a balanced setup and back load.   Will has good balance and above average bat speed.   Good rhythm at the plate with a short, level swing path.  Showcased the ability to drive the gaps.  Defensively, Will has a fast arm action and quick feet behind the plate. Pop times were between 2.09-2.18.  Velocity was 75 from the crouch. Showcased soft hands with above average defensive actions.  At 3B possesses fluid feet with sure hands.  Exchange was clean.  Accurate arm across the field at 75. 

Nate Thomas, RHP, Mishawaka Marian, RHP:  The 6-foot-2 225 pound pitcher pitches from a high ¾ arm slot with some arm speed.  Tall to fall type delivery with level shoulders.  Rhythm is rushed and a little choppy. Stays in the line to the plate, at times lands open.  Fastball was heavy at 86-88 with some late life.  Breaking ball was 70-72 with late break, but erratic; more of a downer type pitch.  Change-up was 77-79 with some sink.

Kyle Wade, RHP/SS, Kokomo, 2018:  The 6-foot-3 205 pound infielder possesses a strong, athletic frame.  Ran a 7.27 60 yard dash.  Kyle produced an exit velocity of 91.  Hits from a balanced setup, loads back.  Stride is short, good balance.  Possesses fast hands with a good approach.  Long, level path to the baseball, consistently barreled up the baseball showing projectable power.  On the mound, pitches from a 3/4 slot with average arm speed.  Long arm action with a slight stab on the backside.  Shows some rhythm in the delivery with level shoulders.  Good line to the plate.  Fastball sat 78-81 and thrown for strikes.  Breaking ball has 11/5 shape and gradual break at 67-70.  

Keegan Watson, OF, New Palestine, 2017:  The 6-foot-2 200 pound strong, athletic outfielder ran a 6.9 60 yard dash.  Keegan produced an exit velocity of 91 mph.  Keegan has a balanced, athletic setup.  Hands are fast.  Bat path is level with extension. Showcased gap to gap power.  Defensively, Keegan showcased a strong arm from the OF with clean footwork and a quick exchange.  Velocity from the outfield was 89mph.  On the mound pitches from a 3/4 slot with some arm speed.  Long arm action. Regular effort in the delivery with some rhythm.  Level shoulders and good line to the plate.  Fastball was 82-83 and kept down in the zone.  Breaking ball has an 11/5 shape sitting at 68-69.  

Reid Werner, RHP, Greenwood, 2016:  The 6-foot-3 175 pound pitcher was 82-84 with the fastball.  Fastball was straight and thrown for strikes.  Curveball was thrown between 71-73 with gradual break from an 11/5 shape.  Possesses some arm speed.  Rhythm is a little rushed with level shoulders. Stays in line and finishes athletically.
