Underclass Games: Team Red Analysis

On Tuesday, July 29th, PBR Indiana hosted its Inaugural Underclass Games at Grand Park in Westfield, IN. A total of 70 players from across the state participated in the highly talented event. 

In the coming weeks, we will be adding and updating profiles for each of the players in attendance, including complete analysis and video.


Today we take a look at notes on players from Team Red: 

Austin Crouse, 3B/OF, Hamilton SE HS, 2017: 6 foot, 190 pounds, 7.36/60, Throws 78 mph across the infield from a  easy ¾ arm slot with average carry and on target.  Solid hands and fields his position well. Offensively he hits in a balanced stance with a short stride, lower body provides some power.

Bradon Nelson, SS/RHP, Oak Hill HS, 2017: 5 foot 10 inches, 170 pounds, 7.82/60, 81mph across the infield with average carry and from a high ¾ slot. Average hands, fluid feet and a clean exchange. At the plate his hands are high and his stance is very tall with a high knee load. He hits to all fields. On the mound his fastball was 72-74 mph with occasional control, curveball was 64 mph with gradual break.

Braden Scott, LHP, Shakamak HS, 2016: 6 foot 3 inches, 175 pounds, 7.83/60. Tall, Lanky left hand pitcher, comes at hitter from a long ¾ arm angle. Fastball is 73-76 mph with downhill plain and some arm side run. He slows his arm to throw his curveball ( 60-62). Early on he filled up the strike zone. Athletic pitcher with a upside.

Brenden Bube, MIF/RHP, Lanesville HS, 2017: 5 foot 8 inches, 150 pounds, 7.75/60, Athletic player that fields his position well with solid hands, fluid feet and a quick exchange, throws 76 mph from shortstop with a short quick ¾ slot. Hits out of a open stance with a short tap n go stride and a long path to the ball, pull hitter that will hit for power. On the mound he fills up the strike zone, challenges hitters and gets guys out, fastball is 76-77 mph, slider is 64-66 and he throws them both for strikes. Very competitive player.

Brice Stuteville, MIF, South Spencer HS, 2017: 6 foot, 160 pounds, 7.93/60, Tall athletic player with short, quick, easy arm action (72mph) average hands, fluid feet around the bag and a clean ball exchange. Hits in a balanced stance with a smooth, short stride, lower body generates a fast bat, line drive type hitter that hits to all fields. Bat will carry.

Daylan Nanny, 1B/OF, Plainfield HS,2017: 5 foot 11 inches, 168 pounds, L/L 7.9/60. Good hitter with high hands, balanced stance, short stride with a long level path to the ball. With strength he will hit for power. In the field he has average hands, a long, high ¾ arm angle, and 76 mph from the outfield.

Garrett Welch, OF/RHP, New Castle HS, 2017: 6 foot 3 inches, 170 pounds, 7.05/60, Athletic and lanky player with average hands, good feet and a solid ball transfer, arm works easy, throws 80 mph from right field. Hits in a balanced stance with a short stride, lower body produces a fast bat. On the mound his fastball was 79-83 with hard downhill sink, curveball was 66-71 with late, sharp movement. He throws both pitches for strikes and could follow a curveball with a fastball in the strike zone.

Hayden Castor, SS, Wapahani HS, 2016: 6 foot 3 inches, 175 pounds, 7.03/60, smooth fielder with short arm action and can throw from different slots. Athletic with average hands, fluid feet and a good ball transfer, 79 mph across the infield. He hits from a balanced stance with a short stride and explosive bat speed with extension through contact. Will hit for power with added strength.

Jackson Bland, RHP/MIF, Lebanon HS, 2016: 6 foot, 200 pounds, 7.86/60, Athletic with a good feel for the game. Arm action is short, ¾ and easy,  his throws are on target with average carry ( 71 mph). He has average hands, fluid feet and a clean ball exchange. He hits from an open stance with a short, smooth stride. He gets extension through contact. Line drive hitter that hits to all fields. On the mound his fastball is 77-80 mph with slight downhill plain, slider is 63 mph with gradual movement.

Kyle Callahan, RHP, Zionsville HS, 2018: 6 foot 2 inches, 180 pounds, 7.18/60, Young, tall and lanky right hand pitcher, Fastball is 80-83 mph and he touched 85 mph. Short ¾ slot with easy effort, Slider is 67-70 with late sink with fastball arm speed. Very projectable

Kyle Weiss, OF/LHP, Columbus East HS, 2016: 5 foot 9 inches, 165 pounds, 7.26/60, L/L, Good situational hitter with a good feel. Open stance with a short, smooth stride and a fast bat. Throws 82 mph from the outfield with a long ¾ arm angle, throws are on target with average carry. On the mound he is aggressive and throws two pitches for strikes, fastball 74-78 mph with sink, curveball 63 mph with late action.

Luke Florek, OF/SS, Western HS, 2017: 6 foot, 165 pounds, 7.57/60 Throws 83 from rightfield with a long ¾ arm angle. He has plus hands at shortstop with good feet and a solid exchange. Tall and athletic hitter, open stance and slight bat wrap. Will hit for power with added strength.

Noah Davis, C/3B, Andrean HS, 2016:  6 foot, 215 pounds, 8.34/60, L/R, 2.05- 2.15 pop time. Has soft hands and moves well behind the plate, throws are 76 mph and on target to second base with carry. Hits from a slightly open stance with a short stride and quick hands through the zone. At 3b he displayed athleticism and had a good feel for that position.

Riley Perlich, RHP/C, Carroll HS, 2018: 6 foot 4 inches, 180 pounds, L/R, 7.82/60, 2.23- 2.33 pop time, Athletic, young player, strong body with wide shoulders and narrow hips. Behind the plate he had average hands and moved well. He hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, aggressive hitter, he will hit for power as he continues to grow and get stronger. On the mound he was very confident, 77-80 mph fastball with hard downhill plain and consistently in the strike zone. Very projectable RHP.

Rhett Wintner, 1B/3B, Brebeuf HS, 2017: 6 foot 3 inches, 180 pounds, R/R, 7.64/60, Big, athletic and lanky. Hits to all fields from a balanced stance with a short stride and a slight upper cut.  Throws from high ¾ arm slot, 74 mph from 3b with average carry and on target.

Tyler Burthay, C/3B, Western HS, 2017: 6 foot 1 inch, 190 pounds, 7.44/60, 2.0 – 2.04 pop time, 75 mph throws to second with average carry and on target from a short, quick ¾ arm slot. Athletic catcher that works hard behind the plate. Hits in a open stance with a short stride, lower body strength generates a fast bat on a level plain with a good extension through the zone, he will hit for power. 

Matt Olovich, SS/OF/RHP, Guerin Catholic HS, 2017: 5 foot 8 inches, 150 pounds, 7.45/60, Very good player, has instincts and a good feel for the game. Average hands with fluid feet and a good exchange. Long arm action, throws 80 across the infield with good carry and on target. Projects more as an OF with his long arm action and arm strength.  From the OF was 88 mph with accuracy.  Moves well with good instincts. Offensively he hits to all fields from a balanced stance and a short load. Better hitter with two strikes on him. On the mound his fastball is 80-81 with heavy downhill plain. He has a short, quick but smooth delivery. Slider is 62 and throws both pitches for strikes. Very athletic and fields his position well.
