The JUCO Wire is a new weekly feature that will continue to build on the Prep Baseball Report’s unparalleled coverage of amatuer baseball across the country. The JUCO Wire will provide updated information on junior college transfers, players moving on, who’s hot, and any other relevant news from around the country.

The JUCO Wire is a compilation of boots-and-the-ground scouting, information collected from our state-specific scouting staff, outside submissions, and any other news and nuggets gleaned throughout the year.

Transfer Wire

  • RHP Luke Matheny (Westminster Christian, MO, 2015) has transferred to San Jac (TX) from Oklahoma State. Matheny was ranked No. 9 in the MIssouri Class of 2015 and No. 131 in the PBR Overall Ranks. He will be teaming up with his younger brother Jake at San Jac.

  • LHP Blair Frederick (Brother Martin, LA, 2016) has transferred to San Jac (TX) from LSU. Frederick was ranked No. 8 in the PBR Louisiana Class of 2016 and No. 161 in the PBR Overall Ranks.

  • INF Nick Neville (Lake Braddock, VA, 2015) has transferred to San Jac (TX) from Notre Dame.

  • 1B Damond Nixon (Archbishop Curley, MD, 2016) has transferred to Florence Darlington Tech (SC) from Mount St. Mary’s. Nixon was ranked No. 33 in the PBR Maryland Class of 2016.

  • OF Jordan Myrow (Notre Dame, CA, 2015) has transferred to San Jac (TX) from UCLA.

  • RHP Jim Jarecki (Marquette University, WI, 2016) has transferred to Heartland (IL) from Bradley. Jarecki was ranked No. 28 in the PBR Wisconsin Class of 2016.

  • LHP Lucas Krull (Mill Valley, KS, 2016) has transferred to Jeff Co from Arkansas. Krull was ranked No. 5 in the Kansas Class of 2016 and No. 64 in the PBR Overall Ranks.

State College of Florida Adds Six Transfers

  • OF Anthony Gonnella (Riverview, FL, 2016) has transferred in from South Florida. Gonnella was ranked No. 31 in the PBR Florida Class of 2016 and No. 113 in the PBR Overall Ranks.

  • RHP Robbie Peto (Monroe Township, NJ, 2016) has transferred in from North Carolina. Peto was ranked No. 5 in the PBR New Jersey Class of 2016 and No. 50 in the PBR Overall Ranks. He was drafted in the 30th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels. Peto did not make an appearance for the Tar Heels in 2017, but spent the summer with the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod League making eight appearances over 22 innings.

  • INF CJ Alexander (Bishop Verot, FL, 2015) has transferred in from Ball State.

  • RHP Andrew Jones (Sarasota, FL, 2016) has transferred in from Florida Atlantic. Jones was ranked No. 91 in the PBR Florida Class of 2016 and No. 334 in the PBR Overall Ranks. Jones made nine appearances as a freshman for the Owls.

  • OF Aaron Greenfield (Millikan, CA, 2016) has transferred in from North Carolina.

  • LHP Zach Attianese (Old Bridge, NJ, 2016) has transferred in from North Carolina. Attianese was ranked No. 17 in the PBR New Jersey Class of 2016 and No. 264 in the PBR Overall Ranks.

  • In addition to the transfers there will be five incoming freshman for the Manatees. OF Josh Crouch (Sebring, FL, 2017) was originally committed to Florida International and ranked No. 78 in the PBR Florida Class of 2017 and No. 296 in the PBR Overall Ranks. C Collin Moore (Inspiration Academy, FL, 2017), 1B/LHP Bryce Hulett (Lake Wales, FL, 2017),RHP Hunter Perdue (Grassfield, VA, 2017), and LHP Ricardo Alvarez (Puerto Rico Baseball Academy) have all enrolled.  

Mercer CC (NJ) Adds 11 Transfers

The Vikings are coming off a 48-14 season and a runner up finish at the NJCAA D2 World Series in Enid, Oklahoma. This year they supplement their roster with 11 transfers. CLICK HERE for Mercer’s fall schedule.

  • C Ciaran Devenney (St. John Vianney, NJ, 2016) has transferred in from Delaware State. Devenney was ranked No. 78 in the PBR New Jersey Class of 2016.

  • C Jimmy Versage (Middle Township, NJ, 2015) has transferred in from Louisiana-Monroe.

  • RHP Ethan Pritchett (Neumann-Goretti, PA, 2016) has transferred in from Wagner. Pritchett was ranked No. 38 in the PBR Pennsylvania Class of 2016.

  • RHP Brian Chaballa (Howell, NJ, 2016) has transferred in from St. John’s. Chaballa was ranked No. 25 in the PBR New Jersey Class of 2016 and No. 316 in the PBR Overall Ranks.

  • RHP Brett Hyers (Toms River North, NJ, 2015) has transferred in from UNC-Asheville.  

  • 1B Jared Schram (Council Rock North, PA, 2016) has transferred in from Bloomsburg University. Schram was ranked No. 153 in PBR Pennsylvania Class of 2016.

  • SS Tyler Thomas (Vero Beach, FL, 2015) has transferred in from Pensacola CC.

  • RHP Cole Davis (Milford, DE, 2016) has transferred in from Delaware State. RHP Trevor Wagner (Toms River South, NJ, 2016) has transferred in from Monmouth, OF Andrew Avots (South Brunswick, NJ, 2016) has transferred in from Post University, and RHP Eric Petroski (Father Judge, PA, 2016) has transferred in from East Stroudsburg University.

Other Transfer News

  • RHP Brandon Murray (Hobart, IN, 2014) has transferred to Division II Purdue University-Northwest from South Carolina. He will have to sit out this spring per NCAA transfer rules. Murray was the No. 1 ranked player in the Indiana Class of 2014 and No. 15 in the PBR Overall Ranks, he was selected in the 30th round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. He pitched in 62 innings over the past three seasons for the Gamecocks.

Moving On

  • Parkland JC (IL) LHP Jack Lambert (St. Charles North, IL, 2016) has committed to Western Kentucky.

  • McLennan JC (TX) C Josh Breaux (Tomball, TX, 2016) has committed to Arkansas. Breaux hit .401 with 19 home runs and 82 RBIs as a freshman at McLennan. He was a 36th round pick by the Astros in last June’s draft.

Region X Showcase

  • Region X starts their fall showcase circuit with 10 of the 20 teams heading to Campbell University Friday-Saturday. Each team will play two games and partake in a full pregame with 60s.

  • Friday will include Patrick Henry (NC), Louisburg (NC), Lenoir (NC), and Brunswick (NC). The first BP stats at 8:50 AM.

  • Saturday will include Southeastern (NC), Wake Tech (NC), and USC-Sumter (SC). The first BP stats at 9:50 AM.

  • Sunday will include Florence Darlington (SC), Pitt (NC), and Bryant & Stratton (VA). The first BP starts at 9:50 AM.

Kansas Jayhawk CC Conference Showcase

  • The KJCC Sophomore Showcase will take place on Friday-Saturday, September 15-16th. The showcase will take place at Wichita State University, the event features a pro style workout followed by games. Friday starts at 11 AM and saturday starts at 9:45 AM.

Puma Classic

  • The Puma Classic will take place on Friday-Saturday, September 15-16th at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana. The event will feature teams from Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.

JUCO Game Coverage Around PBR
