TOP RETURNERS (College Commitment)
Jarrett Johnson, OF, 2015
McCae Allen, RHP/1B, 2016

X-FACTOR
Scott Engler, RHP, 2015 (Cowley County CC).
Engler is a physical right-hander at 6-foot-3, 215-pounds that posted impressive numbers in limited action last spring striking out 25 batters in only 12 innings with a 0.00 ERA. At the 5A state tournament in Manhattan he flashed an upper 80’s fastball, touching 90 with a hard 12/6 breaking ball. He should see an expanded role this spring and if he picks up where he left off last May could be key factor in Carroll’s fortunes this spring.

KEY PLAYER LOST
Taylor Sanagorski, C, 2014 (Wichita State). The Golden Eagles lost several talented seniors from last year’s 22-3 squad, including Taylor Sanagorski, a team leader and physical presence behind the plate. Last spring he hit .392 with 27 runs scored and 19 RBI and was named to the KABC 5A all-state first team at season’s end.

KEY STAT
45-5.
Carroll has amassed a mind-boggling 45-5 record the last two seasons and has finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd at the state tournament the last three seasons.

2015 OUTLOOK:
The Golden Eagles must replace four KABC 5A first team all-state performers from last season’s team that made a run at the state tournament in Manhattan, but the cupboard is by no means bare. Returning for his senior campaign is left-hand hitting outfielder Jarrett Johnson who also earned 5A first team all-state honors after collecting 11 extra base hits, including three home runs while leading Carroll in RBI with 34 last spring. Junior right-handed pitcher/first baseman McCae Allen was an All-City pitcher as a sophomore posting a 5-1 record and also hit .424. Another returner with significant at bats last season is speedy senior outfielder Mark Quaney. Senior catcher Anthony Trujillo, who saw limited action last year as Sanagorski’s back-up,  produced when giving an opportunity going 6-for-11 and is expected to take over behind the plate. Expectations are also high for sophomore middle infielder Adam Theis, who did see some varsity time in his freshman season. On the mound, junior right-hander PJ Henning returns after dialing in a 2.17 ERA in nine innings as a sophomore. Experience may be an issue for Carroll this spring due to graduation losses, however there is plenty of talent in their senior and junior classes that has been waiting their turn to make it into the line-up and on the mound.
