Player of the Week: Drew Johnson, Maize HS

Each week we scour over hundreds of box scores and faxes/email from coaches trying to narrow Player of the Week candidates down to 20-25 guys first, then analyze further cutting the list down to a group of top performers, usually 10-15.  Maize senior Drew Johnson's 6-for-9, four runs scored, two RBI, two walks,  two stolen bases offensive performance this week likely would have made the first cut, but not the second.

This was just part of the story of Johnson's week, however, as he also dialed in a complete game shutout over Wichita Northwest on Friday to push him all the way to the top of the list.  The right-hander gave up five hits over seven innings with no walks and five strikeouts versus a Northwest team with the offensive personnel more than capable of putting up a 10-spot on a pitching staff.  For his work this week at the plate and brilliant pitching performance on Friday Drew Johnson is this week’s Prep Baseball Report Kansas High School Player of the Week.
