Kansas Underclass Games: 2018 Right-Handed Pitchers

Prep Baseball Report-Kansas held the Underclass Prospect Games on May 31 at Kansas State University.  Nearly 100 players participated in the 2018 and 2019 class. 

Player profiles have been updated with video, times, velos and profile pictures.  Today we will take a look at the 2018 right-handed pitchers performances from the event.  Although some may have played other positions, this is just a break down of the performances on the mound.

2018 Right-Handed Pitchers

Pryce Anderson, RHP, Labatte County, 2018
Anderson is a 6-foot 173-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Anderson has an over the top release, smooth rhythm, throws with regular effort,  he works his fastball at 75-81 mph, straight, curveball at 63-64 mph, 12-to-6 shape.

Forrest Barnes, RHP, Ozark (MO), 2018
Barnes is a 6-foot-1 165-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Barnes touched 86 mph with is fastball, working 83-86 mph, top velo for the event, throws on downhill plane, both sides of the plate, good fastball command, he has a high-three quarters delivery, loose and quick arm action, body stays under control during the delivery,  breaking ball is a sharp 2-to-8 curveball 61-64 mph, change up at 76 mph, with late sink. 

Billy Bechard, RHP, Concordia, 2018
Bechard is a 5-foot-11 170-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas 2018 class. Bechard controlled delivery with a quick arm, over the top release, loose arm action, throws strikes with fastball and curveball, fastball at 78-81 mph, curveball has depth with 12-to-6 action, 64-66 mph, challenges hitters, works quick between pitches. 

Ben Buchinger, RHP, Liberty (MO), 2018
Buchinger is a 6-foot 200-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Buchinger has a over the top release, accelerated rhythm in delivery, throws with regular effort, in line stride, fastball at 75-77 mph, breaking ball has 12-to-6 shape, 63-64 mph. 

Brayden Carr, RHP, Mill Valley, 2018
Carr is a 5-foot-9 150-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Carr has a simple and repeatable delivery with smooth tempo, high three quarters release, loose arm action, fastball at 70-74 mph, high percentage of strikes, curveball has 11-to-5 action, 63-64 mph, gradual break.

Nicholas Chomyak, RHP, Shawnee Mission Northwest, 2018
Chomyak is a 5-foot-9 170-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Chomyak was aggressive in the zone, attacking with a fastball at 79-82 mph, one of the top velos for the event, with 2-seam action, breaking ball has depth at 73-75 mph, 11-to-5 shape, late action, was in the zone with fastball and curveball, repeats release point, smooth and controlled delivery, throws with regular effort, body stays under control with loose arm action.

Roderick Criss, RHP, Staley (MO), 2018
Criss is a 6-foot-2 175-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class.  Criss was 79-83 mph with is fastball, one of the top velos for the event, throwing a majoritiy of strikes, some had late run, breaking ball has 11-to-5 action, late and sharp, 69-73 mph, controllable change up at 77 mph with sink, over the top release, aggressive down the mound, repeats delivery, throws strikes with three pitches, attacks zone. 

Josh Flack, RHP, Shawnee Mission Northwest, 2018
Flack is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class.  Flack showed good mound presence during his inning of work mixing three pitches to keep hitters off balance, fastball at 79-80 mph, works whole zone, curveball has 11-to-5 shape, 63-64 mph, change up showed to be a good pitch, fastball arm speed at 66-67 mph, late sink.  Throws with high three quarters release, quick and loose arm action, regular effort and athletic finish.

Nathan Hungate, RHP, Kapaun Mt. Carmel, 2018
Hungate is a 5-foot-9 185-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class.  Hungate has a deliberate tempo in wind up, accelerates down the mound, over the top release, easy and loose arm action, throws with regular effort, got better as inning went along, fastball at 77-80 mph, curveball has 12-to-6 action, 61-63 mph, late action.

Ethan Kaus, RHP, Manhattan, 2018
Kaus is a 6-foot-1 185-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class.  Kaus has an over the top release, smooth rhythm, downhill angle, in line stride, works both sides of plate, fastball at 77-80 mph, curveball at 69-73 mph, 12-to-6 action, throws both pitches for strikes.

Devon Lujan, RHP, Olathe East, 2018

Lujan is a 6-foot-2 205-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas 2018 class.  Lujan’s fastball was at 77-78 mph, curveball was at 68-73 mph, works to contact challenging hitters on both sides of the plate, over the top release, throws with regular effort, repeats delivery, athletic finish.

Dalton Mall, RHP, Shawnee Mission East, 2018
Mall is a 6-foot-1 165-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class.  Mall repeats his delivery, throws strikes, loose arm action, projects to add strength and velo with athletic frame and wide shoulders, fastball at 81-84 mph, one of the top velos for the event, late life, breaking ball at 68-70 mph, fastball arm speed, late 11-to-5 action, attacks hitters, good inning of work.

Connor Nekola, RHP, Mill Valley, 2018
Nekola is a 5-foot-11 155-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class.  Nekola worked the knees of the zone with fastball at 75-78 mph, some with late running action, curveball has 12-to-6 action, 60-65 mph, some with late movement, over the top release, strike thrower, smooth tempo, loose arm action, repeats.

James Perry, RHP, Liberty North (MO), 2018
Perry is a 6-foot-4 185-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri's 2018 class.  Perry was up to 82 mph from the mound, one of the events top velos, he sat 79-82 mph with his fastball, aggressive arm speed, over the top release, gains momentum down the mound, in line stride, curveball at 68-71 mph, 11-to-5 action, late. 

Logan Pittman, RHP, Blue Valley, 2018
Pittman is a 6-foot-3 210-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class.  Pittman’s fastball was at 73-75 mph, throws for a strike, both sides of the plate, breaking ball at 68-70 mph, 10-to-4 slurve-type action, controllable, change up showed to be good pitch, 65-67 mph, late sinking action, throws strikes with three pitch mix, high three quarters arm slot, repeats release point with all pitches, smooth tempo in delivery, throws with regular effort.

Garrett Presko, RHP, Pembroke Hill (MO), 2018
Presko is a 6-foot-2 185-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class.  Presko worked fastball at 81-85 mph, one of the top velos for the event, breaking ball is a sharp “wipe-out” slider at 71-74 mph, produces swing and miss, throws mostly fastball and slider for a strikes, quick arm action, loose, attacks zone and works quick, repeats delivery. 

Jacob Robinette, RHP, Basehor Linwood, 2018
Robinette is a 5-foot-10 190-pound right-haned pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class.  Robinette works from an over the top release, controlled tempo, accelerates down the mound, in line stride, athletic finish, fastball at 71-74 mph, curveball has 12-to-6 shape at 62-63 mph, down in zone, throws with regular effort.

Jacob Schuh, RHP, Valley Heights, 2018
Schuh is a 5-foot-9 135-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class.  Schuh has a high-three quarters release, in line stride down the mound, athletic finish, fastball at 67-70 mph, breaking ball at 62-63 mph, 12-to-6 shape, throws with regular effort.

Mikey Strong, RHP, St. Thomas Aquinas, 2018
Strong is a 6-foot-2 174-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class.  Strong was 79-82 mph with is fastball, one of the top velos for the event, slight run, throws downhill, locates well, breaking ball 70 mph, late 12-to-6 action, down in zone, change up at 68-72 mph, some arm side sink, projectable fram and loose arm action would suggest an increase in velo to go with command as he continues to develop.

Andrew Sumner, RHP, DeSoto, 2018
Sumner is a 5-foot-8 130-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas 2018 class.  Sumner has a low three-quarters slot, a submarine delivery,  his fastball was 64-67 mph, breaking ball at 56-59, 10-to-4 action, shows ability to repeat release, runs ball in to RHH with fastball, works both sides of plate, smooth rhythm in delivery, high number of strikes. 

Ethan Taylor, RHP, Lawrence, 2018
Taylor is a 6-foot-1 215-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas 2018 class.  Taylor was 80-83 mph with his fastball, one of the top velos for the event, down in zone, showed command of a tight braking 12-to-6 curveball at 67-72 mph, change up has arm side run at 73 mph, over the top release, loose arm action, in line stride, aggressive in the zone, smooth rhythm and repeats delivery, got better as inning developed, projectable pitchers frame with mound presence. 

Blayten Tullis, RHP, Derby, 2018
Tullis is a 5-foot-11 150-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class.  Tullis touched 79 mph with his fastball, working 74-79 mph, late run, curveball at 60-66 mph, 11-to-5 shape, late action, change up at 61 mph, long and lean frame with loose arm action, projectable velo increase, high three quarters release, smooth rhythm, simple and repeatable delivery. 

Brenden Wheeler, RHP, Fox (MO), 2018
Wheeler is a 6-foot 135-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class.  Wheeler worked 72-74 mph with his fastball, some with slight run, curveball has 11-to-5 shape, 61-65 mph, change up 66-67 mph, arm side run, fastball arm speed, throws for a strike, throws slightly across body, hides ball well, has some deception, hides ball well, lean frame with ability to add strength.
