Player of the Week: Cole Duensing, Blue Valley NW HS

It’s one thing to give a high school sophomore pitcher an inning here or there to get them some varsity experience in the hopes of it paying off the down the road, its another to give a sophomore the ball against the top team in the state, and one of the top teams in the nation, in a league game (in the state’s top league, for good measure).

That’s exactly what Blue Valley Northwest’s Corby Lange did on Thursday when he penciled right-hander Cole Duensing’s name into the line-up as starting pitcher against Blue Valley West.  In turn, Duesning did his best to make Lange look like the Tony LaRussa of high school baseball – as the righty dialed in a complete game win throwing seven innings, giving up five hits, one run, one walk while striking out five Jaguar hitters.

As if this weren’t enough, the left-hand hitting Duensing also reached base three times in three plate appearances collecting two hits and scoring a run.

For his efforts on Thursday, Duensing earned the Prep Baseball Report Kansas High School Baseball Player of the Week Award.

We will have scouting notes from Duensing’s performance in tomorrow’s update of the Kansas Scouting Blog.
