KY College Prospect Showcase: Outfield Analysis

By Chris Fuller
Kentucky Scouting Director

On Sunday, January 19, a total of 49 prospects showcased their abilities to the PBR Kentucky staff and several college coaches.  While small, the outfield group turned in a number of solid performances as some new faces established themselves as prospects to follow, and other players we had seen before showed improvement from previous events.

As we begin today with the outfielders and continue with other positional groups the rest of the week, players will be featured at their primary position.  Those position players who also pitch will have their pitching write-ups included in the analysis of all pitchers.

The following is a look at the outfield group by class that participated in the event.

class of 2015

Trent Revelette, R/R, OF, St. Xavier HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 180-pound prospect with athletic build, shows athletic outfield actions with a clean exchange, throws through an over the top arm slot with carry, top velocity from the outfield registered 84 mph.  At the plate, hits from an open stance, squares front side with a short stride, gets lower half involved in swing generating bat speed through the zone, consistently barreled up the baseball in his round with several hard line drives, ran a 4.63 down the first base line, 83 mph tee exit velocity (86 at previous event).

Daniel Seitzinger, L/L, OF, McCracken County HS, 2015
6-foot, 160-pound prospect with athletic build and room to add to his frame, shows solid outfield actions with clean exchange, arm is loose from an over the top arm slot with online carry, top velocity registered 82 mph.  At the plate, hits from a slightly open setup, squares front side with a short stride, arm bars in load but gets through the ball with some hand quickness, line drive type hitter with gap-to-gap approach, ran event best 4.26 down the line from the left side, 77 mph tee exit velocity (have seen up to 80).

Jay Poullard, R/R, OF, Ballard HS, 2015
5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect with athletic build, feet move well to the ball in the outfield, plays through the ball well, arm shows some stiffness through a high ¾ arm slot, top velocity registered 74 mph.  At the plate, hits from a slightly open setup, brings front foot back in load with a short stride, good use of lower half torque in swing, hands are quick with a short path to the ball, generates good bat speed through the zone, showed the ability to drive the ball to the gaps in his round, showed good speed with a 4.38 time down the first base line, 83 mph tee exit velocity.

Travis Weber, R/R, RHP/OF, Butler HS, 2015
5-foot-9, 170-pound prospect with athletic build, plays through the ball well in the outfield, clean exchange, loose arm through an over the top arm slot, registered a top velocity on throws of 83 mph with carry.  At the plate, hits from a balanced setup with a short stride, tendency to bar arm in load causing swing to get long at times but uses lower half well to generate bat speed through the zone, line drive type hitter and showed some gap to gap power in his round, ran 4.84 down the first base line, registered 82 mph tee exit velocity.

Gavin Wood, R/R, RHP/OF, Elizabettown HS, 2015
6-foot-3, 185-pound prospect with projectable frame, plays through the ball in the outfield, high ¾ arm slot from the OF, showed 4 mph increase from previous event at 81 mph.  At the plate, hits from a slightly open setup, slight leg kick trigger and squares front side with a short stride, long swing at times, gets some lower half involved in swing, line drive type hitter with good balance, ran 4.69 down the first base line.

Caleb Bird, R/R, OF, Bethlehem HS, 2015
5-foot-7, 145-pound prospect with small and athletic build, attacks the ball well on the ground, plays through the ball, clean exchange, high ¾ arm slot produced a top velocity of 75 mph.  At the plate, hits from a slightly open setup with a leg kick trigger, good use of lower half in swing, shows good hand quickness, line drive type hitter with mid-field approach, ran 4.84 down the first base line, registered 77 mph tee exit velocity.

class of 2016

Tyler Horsley, R/R, OF, Ballard HS, 2016
6-foot-1, 165-pound , attacks the ball well on the ground, plays through the ball, clean exchange and showed a big increase in arm strength at 86 mph (81 at previous event) from a high ¾ slot.  At the plate, hits from a balanced setup with a leg kick trigger, good rhythm in swing, uses lower half well, short path to the ball and gets to extension well, ran a 4.58 down the first base line, 79 mph tee exit velocity, solid 2016 prospect continues to get better each time we see him, did not pitch at this event but would expect to see velocity gains on the mound given the increase in arm strength from the outfield.

class of 2017

5-foot-10, 130-pound prospect with lanky build, has added 15 pounds to his frame since summer and will continue to fill out, shows solid outfield actions with soft hands, clean exchange and with a top velocity of 74 mph (77 at previous event).  At the plate, hits from a balanced setup with a short stride, showed a shorter, more compact swing than previous event, displays the ability to make hard contact the other way, line drive type hitter, should continue to mature into solid left-handed hitter, ran 4.95 down the first base line.
