Not only did Bryan Station sophomore Marcus Johnson provide a spark to the Defenders offense last week, he also did it on the mound as well.

The left-handed hitting OF/LHP showed off his two-way abilities by going 12-for-25 with 3 doubles, 7 RBI, and 4 stolen bases hitting in the two-hole in the Bryan Station lineup.

“Marcus is a kid that can fill a variety of rolls for us,” head coach Eddie Brooks said.  “He’s played a lot in the outfield but recently we have used him some at first base as well.”

In addition to his offensive performance, Johnson won his only start on the mound for the Defenders.  He worked 5 innings of 3-hit baseball, walking 1 and striking out 10 in a 6-4 victory over North Laurel last Friday.

Johnson was one of three players selected as a finalist for Player of the Week from the nominations we received.  We took to twitter to allow the fans to select the honor.  Voting ended at midnight last night, and in what will likely be the closest race between two players we will have all season, here are the final results.

Marcus Johnson, OF/LHP, Bryan Station HS, 2016 – 382 votes
Kipp Moore, SS/RHP, Shelby County HS, 2014 – 378 votes
Mason Stamm, 1B, Danville HS, 2015 – 62 votes

All three players had stellar performances for their respective teams last week, and the fans have spoken.

For his performance on the field, Marcus Johnson has been selected as this week’s Prep Baseball Report Kentucky Player of the Week.
