Sunday, October 27 saw the Kentucky Fall Prospect Program make its final stop of the 5 week program at the University of Kentucky in a make-up date for the rainout that occurred on October 6.

This time the weather cooperated with sunny skies and temperatures in the 50’s.

Uncommitted senior Paul Miller (SS/RHP, Collins HS) turned in an impressive performance to say the least.  Miller was a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate with two doubles and four RBI, and there wasn't a cheap hit among the six.  He also showed well at shortstop with good arm strength across the infield (83 mph).

The following is an in depth look at all the action including game summaries, top performers, and pitcher velocities.

Beginning next week, we will recap all of the players that participated over the course of the five week Fall Prospect Program.

Game 1 Summary

Cameron Planck (’16 RHP, Rowan County) got the start on the mound for Team White while Kyle Fisher (’14 RHP Western Hills) took the ball for Team Black.

Team Black got on the board in the top of the first when Sammy Holder (’14 Lewis Co) led off the game with a single and scored on Paul Miller’s sharp single to right-center for a 1-0 lead.

Planck settled down after the first, allowing only an infield single to Justin Eden (’14 Collins) over the next two innings.  He struck out two over his three innings of work.

In the meantime, Fisher was mowing down Team White hitters.  He retired the side in order in the first, and struck out two in the second.  He finished allowing no runs on three strikeouts over two innings allowing only an Alex Jones (’14 Ballard) single in the second.

Team Black struck again in the 4th when Miller lined a single to left field that drove home two more runs to push the lead to 3-0.

Cody Bridges ('15 Elizabethtown) made it a 4-0 game when he smoked a triple to left-center and then scored on an error in the top half of the 5th.  Though Team White pitcher Robby Skarvan (’14 LHP, St. Xavier) struggled some with command early, he settled down and finished with four strikeouts over his two innings of work with a fastball that topped at 81 and breaking ball that was good when he located it at the bottom of the strike zone.

Team White finally got on the board in the bottom half of the 5th taking advantage of a walk and a couple of wild pitches and then got back in the game with a 3-run 6th.  Alex Jones led off with his second hit of the game, stole second base, and scored on a single by Austin Berleman (’14 Lakota West).  Andrew Kirkland followed with a RBI triple to right-center and Logan Mallory (’15 North Laurel) drove him home with a single to left to pull to within 5-4.

Miller led off the top of the 7th for Team Black with his third hit of the game but Ricky Raisor (’16 RHP, Highlands) induced a 6-4-3 double play to end the threat.  Raisor allowed one run in his two innings of work with a fastball that topped at 80 mph and good command of his curveball.

Team White won the game in the bottom of the 7th in walk-off fashion when Austin Madry (’16 Lexington Catholic) finished off a good at bat with a run-scoring single, and  Trent Revelette (’15 St. Xavier) drove home Madry with a double to left for the 6-5 come-from-behind victory.

Game 2 Summary

Team Black got off to a roaring start in game 2 scoring 11 runs in the first 3 innings, highlighted by a 7 run second.  They took advantage of four Team White errors with several big hits as well.

Graham Smith (’14 Lexington Christian) and Paul Miller (’14 Collins)each collected two hits in the barrage while the big blows came on a 3-run double by Cody Bridges (’15 Elizabethtown) and a 2-run double by Nick Nonos (’14 Ballard).  Sammy Holder added a RBI triple, and Brenden Bube (’17 Lanesville IN) a run scoring single as well.

Sammy Holder was once again impressive on the mound for Team Black allowing no runs on one hit with five strikeouts in his three innings of work.

Team White got on the board in the 4th when Andrew Kirkland drove in a run with a single and Dale Gumm (’14 John Hardin) cleared the bases with a 3-run triple to make the score 11-4.

Brenden Bube collected his second hit of the game in the 6th and scored on Paul Miller’s double to give Team Black the 12-5 win.
