Top Prospect Games: Team Gray Pitcher Analysis

The 2014 Kentucky Top Prospect Games featured more than 120 players over the two-day event.  Today we take a look at the pitchers from Team Gray.  These are pitcher write-ups only.  Position and two-way players will have their write-ups in a subsequent article.

Ethan Cleary, RHP/OF, North Oldham HS, 2015
5-foot-9, 155-pound prospect uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot, extremely quick arm, popped the glove at 89 mph on his first pitch and then settled in at 86-88, throws a sharp, late breaking slider at 76-78 mph and a good changeup with fastball arm action at 75-76 mph with good fade, allowed one hit and struck out 4 of the 8 hitters he faced in game action, despite size one of the top pitching prospects in Kentucky’s 2015 class.

Joshua Scheer, RHP, McCracken County HS, 2015
6-foot-3, 180-pound prospect with athletic and projectable frame, arm is extremely loose and projects for more velocity, uses long arm action through a ¾ arm slot, fastball shows some arm-side run at 83-85 mph touching 86, throws a late-breaking 76-79 mph slider that has the makings of a very good pitch at the next level, 77-78 mph changeup is thrown with fastball arm action, repeats delivery well, allowed 3 hits and struck out 2 of the 10 batters he faced in game action, projects for additional velocity.

Daniel Fischer, RHP, St. Xavier HS, 2016
6-foot-3, 175-pound prospect with lanky build, projectable frame, uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot, easy and repeatable delivery, fastball sat 81-83 mph with late arm-side run, gets around curveball at times but it was good when stayed on top at 69-71 mph with 11/5 and occasional 12/6 action, throws a 72-73 mph changeup with good sink and fade at 72-73 mph, throws all three pitches for strikes, allowed one single and struck out 5 of the 10 batters he faced, good potential with more velocity likely to come.

Ryan Garner, OF/LHP, McCracken County HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 180-pound prospect , arm shows some quickness working through high ¾ arm slot, fastball sat 79-80 mph, two-seamer shows some arm-side run, shows the ability to run a cut fastball in on right-handed hitters, curveball showed tight spin and 1/7 action at 67-68 mph, has good command of curveball with the ability to both throw it off the back foot and back door it to right-handers, allowed a double and struck out 1 of the 5 batters he faced in game action.

Keegan Breese, MIF/RHP, McCracken County HS, 2016
5-foot-10, 150-pound prospect with significant room to fill in on frame, uses shorter/quick arm action through a high ¾ arm slot, lands in-line, easy and repeatable delivery, fastball sat 80-81 mph with occasional slight arm-side run, curveball showed tight spin and sharp 11/5 action at 70-71 mph, shows the ability to throw strikes with both pitches, allowed one hit and struck out 1 of the 5 batters he faced in game action.

Wes King, RHP, South Warren HS, 2015
6-foot-2, 160-pound prospect with projectable frame and room to fill, uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot, easy effort in delivery, showed a slight increase in velocity as fastball sat 79-80 touching 81, curveball showed improvement from previous event at 63-66 mph with sharper 11/5 action and some depth, showed good command in first inning of work, lost some in second, allowed two singles with no strikeouts to the 10 batters he faced in game play.

Dixon Craft, 3B/RHP, Christian County HS, 2016
6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect with strong frame, uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot, fastball is mostly straight and sat 80-81 mph, throws a 71-72 mph curveball with short 11/5 break, potential for more velocity with work on keeping front side closed more consistently, throws a lot of strikes, allowed one hit and struck out 1 of the 5 batters he faced in game action.

Andrew Patterson, RHP/OF, Whitefield Academy, 2015
6-foot-1, 170-pound prospect with athletic frame, uses medium arm action through high ¾ to at times over the top arm slot, arm shows some quickness, fastball shows hard cutting action at times at 78-80 mph, showed some inconsistency with curveball as he tended to get under it at times but it was solid when he stayed on top with sharp 11/5 action and some depth at 65-66 mph, allowed one single to the five batters he faced in game action.

Daniel Seitzinger, OF/LHP, McCracken County HS, 2015
6-foot, 165-pound prospect, loose arm action that works through a high ¾ arm slot, easy effort in delivery, fastball sat 76-78 mph with occasional sink and occasional cutting action, curveball has improved since we last saw him at 64-66 mph with 1/7 action, works the bottom of the strike zone well, allowed two singles and struck out 1 of the 5 batters he faced in game play.

Alex Biggs, RHP, South Warren HS, 2015
6-foot-3, 160-pound prospect with long/lanky and projectable frame, uses long arm action, arm slot varies between low ¾ and ¾, throws significantly across his body, fastball sat 73-76 mph with some cutting action, throws a 65-67 mph slider with short break and a 63-64 mph curveball with gradual 11/5 shape, faced 10 batters in game action allowing 4 singles, consistently throws strikes.
