Unsigned Senior Games: Team Royal Position Player Analysis

The Unsigned Senior Games event saw more than 80 uncommitted class of 2015 players convene at Northern Kentucky University on August 16-17.  The following is a look at all position players who took the field for Team Royal during the event.  This is position player analysis only.  Those players who also pitched at the event had their pitching analysis in a previous article. 

middle infielders

Nick Jackson, 2B, Ballard HS, 2015
5-foot-8, 150-pound right-handed hitter posted a 4.75 home to first base time and 80 mph tee exit velocity.  Hits from a balanced stance with a toe tap and short stride, good balance throughout swing, line drive type hitter with some hand quickness, went 1-for-5 in game play with an infield single.  Defensively, continues to show well as a second baseman, soft hands, good lateral movement, quick high ¾ release, good body control, showed a significant increase in arm strength at 74 mph across the infield with accurate throws to first base.

Joshua Reynolds, RHP/SS< Campbell County HS, 2015
6-foot, 190-pound right-handed hitter posted a 4.84 home to first base time and 83 mph tee exit velocity.  Hits from a wide base with no stride, flat bat path, line drive type hitter with mid to opposite field tendencies, went 1-for-4 in game play with an infield single and two strikeouts.  Defensively showed good lateral movement, adequate hands, quick exchange with short high ¾ release, accurate throws, top velocity of 74 mph across the infield.

Nathan Feibes, 2B/RHP, Bryan Station HS, 2015
5-foot-6, 150-pound right-handed hitter posted a 4.74 home to first base time and 76 mph tee exit velocity.  Hits from a slightly open stance, gets to square with a longer stride, flat bat path with line drive production, went 1-for-5 in game play with a bunt single, made contact in all at bats.  Defensively showed good lateral movement and body control, soft hands, short ¾ release, most throws accurate across the infield, reached a top velocity of 69 mph, made nice diving play in game action.

Daniel Adams, 2B, Beechwood HS, 2015
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitter posted a 4.76 home to first base time and 71 mph tee exit velocity.  Hits from an open stance, gets to square with a short stride, flat swing path with low hand finish, went 1-for-4 in game play with a bloop single to right field.  Defensively, showed average hands, quick exchange with short ¾ release, top velocity reached 70 mph across the infield, mostly accurate throws.

corner infielders

Joseph McIntyre, 3B, Bowling Green HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed hitter posted a 4.69 home to first base time and 79 mph tee exit velocity.  Hits from a balanced stance, short stride, good balance throughout, showed opposite field tendencies in batting practice with more of a gap to gap approach in game play, went 1-for-4 with a single.  Defensively, showed good lateral movement to both sides, adequate hands, made all plays, high ¾ release with 76 mph arm across the infield, mostly accurate throws.

Steven Standafer, 1B/LHP, Shelby County HS, 2015
6-foot-6, 205-pound right-handed hitter with large frame, posted a 5.13 home to first base time and 84 mph tee exit velocity (87 at previous event).  Hits from a balanced stance, bring front foot back in load with a short stride back to the baseball, long swing path, went 0-for-3 in game play with two strikeouts.  Defensively, showed adequate hands, made all plays, 63 mph arm strength across the infield.

Nicholas Richard, 1B, Our Lady of Providence HS (IN), 2015
6-foot-5, 250-pound right-handed hitter with big frame, posted a 5.07 home to first base time and 89 mph tee exit velocity.  Hits from a balanced stance with no stride, lacks complete use of lower half, long swing path, went 0-for-4 in game play with three strikeouts.  Defensively, showed adequate hands, made all the plays in pregame workout, 74 mph arm across the infield, accurate throws.

catchers

Trevor Hammonds, C, Henry Clay HS, 2015
5-foot-11, 180-pound right-handed hitter posted a 4.70 home to first base time and 81 mph tee exit velocity.  Hits from a balanced stance, short stride, showed the ability to use all fields, line drive type hitter, went 1-for-4 in game play with a single to right-center and one strikeout.  Defensively showed the best arm strength of event from behind the plate at 78 mph, recorded the best pop time of the event at 1.94 with a range of 1.94-2.03, solid receiver and blocker, good defensive catcher with ability to continue to improve offensive game.

Addison Coffey, C/RHP, Boyle County HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitter posted a 4.88 home to first base time and personal best 86 mph tee exit velocity.  Hits from a balanced stance, short stride, has a gap to gap line drive approach, went 0-for-5 in game play with two strikeouts.  Solid defensive catcher, receives and blocks well, tends to drift significantly into right-handed batters box on throws, showed the best arm strength to date at 77 mph, release was slower than in the past, pop times ranged from 2.00-2.08, have seen sub 2.0 at other events, showed one of the most accurate arms of the event with all throws on the bag.

Colin Suttles, C, Dixie Heights HS, 2015
6-foot-1, 195-pound right-handed hitter posted a 4.83 home to first base time and 80 mph tee exit velocity.  Hits from a balanced stance, short stride, good use of lower half, has made some mechanical adjustments in shortening swing, went 0-for-4 in game play with two strikeouts.  Defensively, showed improved footwork, quick transfer and release, improved arm strength at 75 mph, pop times ranged from 2.0-2.10, inconsistent accuracy of throws, continued to make strides in overall game.

Cory Mullins, C, Madison Central HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 166-pound right-handed hitter posted a 4.78 home to first base time and 87 mph tee exit velocity.  Hits from a balanced stance, toe tap with minimal stride, pre-pitch hand movement, flat bat path with one-hand finish, went 1-for-4 in game play with a bloop double to right field.  Defensively, shows some athleticism behind the plate, room for better direction of footwork, 76 mph arm strength, pop times ranged from 2.14-2.22, showed an accurate arm with all throws to the bag.

outfielders

Blasie Ostertag, OF/RHP, Conner HS, 2015
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitter posted a 4.75 home to first base time and 83 mph tee exit velocity.  Hits from a balances stance with a leg kick and medium stride, shorter swing path with extension through contact, line drive type hitter with the ability to use all fields, went 1-for-4 in game play with a single to left field.  Defensively, showed the best arm strength of the event at 88 mph, inconsistent on throwing accuracy to third base bag, plays through the ball with athletic actions.

Logan Banks, OF, West Jessamine HS, 2015
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitter posted a 4.78 home to first base time and 84 mph tee exit velocity.  Hits from a wide base with minimal stride, short swing path with extension through contact, line drive type hitter showed opposite field tendencies in game play, went 1-for-4 in game play with a double to right field.  Defensively, plays through the baseball with clean exchanges, showed 80 mph arm strength through high ¾ release, mostly accurate throws.

Andrew Patterson, OF/RHP, Whitefield Academy, 2015
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitter posted a 4.72 home to first base time and 81 mph tee exit velocity.  Hits from a wide base with minimal stride, good lower half torque in swing, hands show some quickness, showed a middle of the field approach, peppered the L-screen with several hard line drives in batting practice, went 3-for-4 in game play with singles to left-center, up the middle, and right-center.  Defensively, plays through the baseball, long arm action with high ¾ slot, 81 mph arm strength with some carry, accurate throws to the third base bag.
