Stephen Thompson, LHP, Owensboro Catholic HS, 2015

At 6-foot, 168-pounds, Thompson has proven to be one of the top left-handed arms left on the board in Kentucky’s 2015 class.

Thompson has participated in two PBR Kentucky events, his best performance being at last winter’s Preseason All-State Showcase at Champions Baseball Academy in Lexington.

At that event, the lefty showed a loose arm that works through a high-3/4 arm slot.  Thompson’s fastball sat 81-83 mph with good arm-side run.  He showed good command of his 71-72 mph curveball that showed hard 2/8 action with tight spin that has the potential to be a very good pitch for him at the next level.  Thompson also threw a 78-79 mph changeup that needs more velocity difference off his fastball to be most effective against college hitters.

With his low-80’s fastball and ability to spin the curveball from the left side, Thompson will certainly have value to a college baseball program.  Exactly where he ends up may depend on his performance this spring for Owensboro Catholic.
