Yesterday, Prep Baseball Report Louisiana looked ahead to the 2018 class. Today, we take a step back and look at a few 2016 prospects that remain on the market.

With only 14 players off of PBR Louisiana’s top 45 list for the class of 2016 committed, these next few months could see plenty of action with players coming off the board.

Lets take a look at three players that have caught the eye of the PBR Scouting Staff recently.

Available 2016s

+ Caleb Armstrong, INF/RHP, Ouachita Parish HS(2016)
A 5-foot-11, 170-pound infielder and right-handed pitcher with a strong, athletic frame. Right-handed hitter that hits from an athletic setup with a smooth load, short stride, explosive lower half and solid balance. Shows fluid rhythm, quality extension, and a gap to gap approach with quality bat speed. Solid defender that shows soft hands, a clean exchange and solid arm strength. Right-handed pitcher with a long arm action with a slight stab, quick arm speed, some effort, smooth rhythm, in-line direction and lands square. Fastball sits 86-88 with solid control and command. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with tight spin and depth at 72-74 mph.

+ Chase Fals, LHP, Pearl River HS(2016)
A 6-foot-4, 210-pound left-handed pitcher with a large, projectable frame. Left-handed pitcher with a long, loose arm action with quickness in the arm speed out of a ¾ release and regular effort. Fastball sits 82-84 mph, touching 86, with slight cut, outstanding angle, and has flashed the ability to pitch within the strike zone. Breaking ball is a developing pitch with 2/8 shape, gradual break, near fastball arm speed, and occasional tight spin.

+ Mason Matherne, OF, John Curtis HS(2016)
A 5-foot-10, 175-pound outfielder with an average, strong, athletic frame. Fast twitchy athlete that shows soft hands and fluid footwork in the outfield with a long, over the top arm slot that produced an 84 mph positional velocity at the Underclass Games. Right-handed hitter with a balanced setup, slight wrap in the load, short stride, and solid balance throughout the swing. Shows a gap to gap approach with quality bat speed.
